service dog academyMemberMeanders has got me hooked. Im a bit of a food snob and for me to say that Meanders is now my favorite place to eat in West Seattle is a big deal for me (sorry fresh bistro). Meals are hearty, made with ingredients you can pronounce and made just like grandma used to make it (lots of butter, eggs, handmade with love and smiles). So go now! Try it! Its seriously good food! And dont forget to tell her Service Dog Academy sent you.

celeste17ParticipantI agree with you about Meanders. I have been in there several times now and absolutely love her food. I was in there today and had the Monte Cristco sandwich. Love Miranda!!

rockergirl5678ParticipantWhere are they located….never heard of it before.
March 25, 2011 at 3:15 am #721064
TraciMemberYES! Meanders is delicious!!!

miwsParticipantrockergirl, it’s the former Jade West Cafe, in the 6000 block of California, about midway between Raymond and Graham, on the east side of the street.

celeste17ParticipantThey are really small. There is one table that can sit up to four people and the rest is sitting at the counter. They fill up fast and you might have to go up the street for coffee from C&P. She has only been in business for a short while but already has a following. Her business hours and from 8am-3pm.
March 25, 2011 at 4:33 pm #721067
swParticipantShhhhh… don’t tell too many people or else we will never get in. :-)
A++ for Meander’s. Highly, highly recommended.

dawsonctParticipantGood gravy.

GingersnapMemberIs Meander’s going to be open on Labor Day? They don’t seem to have a phone, or the number I did find doesn’t work. Can’t wait to try this place!
September 1, 2011 at 12:56 am #721070
dhgParticipantThey just punched a hole in the wall and expanded into another room. They now seat 30!
September 1, 2011 at 1:39 am #721071
SueParticipantGingersnap, I think Meanders is closed on Mondays, unless that has changed. So I’m assuming they’d be closed.
dhg, did you have to give away the secret? Now it’ll be even more crowded. :)

catladyMemberAnother rave for Meanders! We had breakfast last weekend. Hubby had the biscuits and gravy and absolutely loved them. I had the Monte Cristo sandwhich and it was the best one I’ve EVER had – and I’ve had my fair share. She makes it on challah bread and grills it on all 4 sides. We sat at the counter and I got really excited watching my sandwhich cook. Pathetic, I know…
September 1, 2011 at 2:04 pm #721073
SueParticipantcatlady, not pathetic … it’s half the charm of the place! Even though they added all those other tables, I still sit at the counter. I think it would be disappointing if I had to sit in the other room and not be part of the action.

meanderMemberAww, thanks folks! Yes, we will be open on Labor Day. We’ve expanded our hours to seven days a week, in addition to now having extra seating. We have some new staff, and are scrambling to keep up with all of the new business. Folks have been patient, for the most part, with the bumps as we went through training new folks in and changing around our systems to add more capacity, but I think we’ve got it just about nailed. Do let me know how your experience is, when you go!

shed22ParticipantSave a seat for me. Tomorrow around 10am.

MTMParticipantI would never lick my plate after a wonderful meal anywhere, but every now and then a special serving of food comes along that brings the thought to mind, just because the food is so darned good. Meanders serves those kinds of meals.

Betty TMemberMy fiend & I sometimes walk from High Point to the Junctiom and just happened to find Meanders. Its great food! Went one Sunday and had to put our name on a list & wait 30 minutes or so then shared the only table with a young couple which was very friendly. The wait was worth it. Knew they planned to expand but didn’t know it was done. One day had their Eggs Benedict and brought half home as I’m a senior and was too much but it was delicious.Have seen two different cooks, both very efficient.

yarncoreMemberThe ham with red eye gravy and cheese grits is just about the best breakfast item in the world! I love the food there, and I love the people there.
And since it seems to be a consensus, let’s show the rest of Western Washington how much we love this gem of a place and vote for it: http://best.king5.com/meander-s-kitchen/biz/626404?c=5884028bf09eaae2&r=fb

dawsonctParticipantOkay, speaking of grits, this is one Northern boy who likes REAL grits, and Alber’s doesn’t have them. Red Mill’s “grits” are really polenta (and pretty good polenta).
Please get real grits, ie:
http://www.ansonmills.com/grits.htm
or:
http://www.carolinaplantationrice.com/store/products/Carolina-Plantation-Stone-Ground-Grits.html
or:
http://www.boykinmillfarms.com/order.asp

I know, I am edging into food snob territory (grits and snobbishness. Somehow they don’t seem to go together), and i was raised on Alber’s, but if you ever get a chance to have REAL grits such as these, you will understand. Seriously, Alber’s is more like Cream of Wheat. That’s not the texture you want.
—
Complaining aside, EVERYTHING I have eaten at Meanders has been excellent, and I get my REAL grits fix at home.
What I DO need to do, is get down there and try the CFS.
September 6, 2011 at 7:36 pm #721080
JanSParticipantlove me some grits with butter , salt and pepper. Dawson, do you have a preference among the above companies?
And,yes, Meanders…yummy, yummy, yummy !
September 6, 2011 at 7:39 pm #721081
yarncoreMemberI guess I don’t really care what “real” grits are, because the cheese grits are delicious whether they are real or not. Good food is good food, know what I mean?
September 7, 2011 at 2:06 am #721082
dawsonctParticipantSure, unless without much effort it can be MUCH better!
This is certainly NOT a rant at Meander’s. If I want real grits I make ’em at home. If I’m too lazy to make breakfast and I go to Meanders, I’ll have the B&G, or something else.
Just one food pro trying to turn another on to something REAL good!
—
I really like the Carolina Plantation grits, because they are barely even ground (I guess it is called antebellum style). They are most certainly not quick-cook, in fact they take a HELL of a lot longer than the 5 minutes suggested in My Cousin Vinny.
The other two are also terrific, though Anson Mills are probably closer to an artisinal product, milled under strict conditions and using rare, heirloom corn. Though not much more expensive than the others, they are usually the ones you would find on a NYC menu selling for about 5 times the price of a bag.
—
I’ve had a lot of other good grits from other producers, but the common thread is they all seem to be from well below the Mason-Dixon line, and well east of the Mississippi.
—
I’m normally more of a locavore, but some things should come primarily from their home region. In this case, it is an American product, made by American Companies, employing American workers. In most cases, these businesses are reviving an old industry and even older field crops, both of which had almost become extinct.

yarncoreMemberMeander’s has climbed from 12th place to 7th for Best Breakfast in the matter of a few days. Let’s get her all the way to the top!

ElizabethElaineParticipantVoted! I wanna see the walls at Meander’s covered with “Voted Best…” certificates!
September 12, 2011 at 7:29 pm #721085
JasperbluParticipantBlue cheese grits. Ask Miranda. When she has the blue cheese, she’ll make ’em. I haven’t been in for breakfast in ages… the hazards of working in Downtown Seattle now, I just can’t slip into Meander’s for a random Tues breakie. Dammit. I miss it too. Best food in West Seattle!
