I tried to get the WSB to post this on the front page but they were not interested. I know it happened a while ago but Ive been busy trying to build Service Dog Academy from the ground up.

On 8/28 at approximately 10am in the morning I was woken up by a ring at the door bell. I was followed downstairs by my two dogs barking up a storm to find an odd looking woman standing outside my door. She explained to me that she wanted to use my phone to call her friend because she was stuck. Shooing the dogs back from the door I went and got my home phone and cell phone and came back to the front of the house. I told her that I needed to take her picture because there had been some break ins in the area by people claiming to originally be salesmen (something I had read on the West Seattle Blog’s Forum). I

snapped a photo using my cell phone camera as she was using my home phone.

She told me she could not get in contact with her friend and gave me the phone back. She started telling me how she was out of gas money and had to sleep in her truck and wanted to know where the nearest pawn shop was. I told her where it was and sent her on her way. A few minutes later, feeling sorry for her I got all the change out of my change cup (about $3.00 worth) and walked down the sidewalk to her and her truck. I gave her the change, told her where the gas station was and did NOT offer to drive her up there because I was afraid she might be working with someone who would try to break in while I was gone with her.

Fast forward 2 weeks and I get a phone call from this womans “friend” telling me to google her name (Heather Asbell), watch my mail for missing financial information (she is apparently known for identity theft among other crimes) and call the crimestoppers tip line. I told her “friend” that I had gotten a photo of her. She was relieved to hear that I had been proactive and that I never let her into my house because she has been known to take advantage of people she had met the same way she met me.

Immediately after hanging up with her friend I called Crimestoppers and the Seattle PD and notified them of my encounter as well as the photo.

My husband, my dogs, my dog training clients and I thank you West Seattle Blog for providing this amazing community resource. The blog just might have prevented someone from breaking into my house and harming me and my family these last couple of months.

Here is the information about fugitive Heather Asbell:
