AlkiMacParticipantAfter several days of noticing a problem with the traffic signal at the intersection of Chelan Avenue SW, West Marginal Way SW, Delridge Way SW and SW Spokane Street, I decided to let someone at Seattle Dept. of Transportation (SDOT) know about it. (This is the intersection at the west end of the low level West Seattle bridge.)
In the afternoon’s commute, I noticed the light would stay green for traffic traveling eastbound from Chelan Ave. SW for several minutes after all traffic cleared. This caused huge backups in all the other directions waiting to travel westbound.
I found this link on the web to report to SDOT:

I emailed out my observations on Aug. 5th.
Here’s the email I received today from SDOT:

Dear AlkiMac:
Thank you for taking the time to write to us about the traffic signal at the intersection of Chelan Avenue SW, West Marginal Way SW, Delridge Way SW and SW Spokane Street.
We have investigated the problem and found there was a malfunctioning detector on Chelan Street. The problem was corrected on the evening of August 6, and everything else appears to be operating smoothly.
Again, thank you for alerting us to this situation. If there is anything else I can assist with, please let me know.
Sincerely,
Christopher Faulkner
Assistant Civil Engineer
Seattle Department of Transportation

I noticed traffic has been smoother at this traffic signal the past couple of weeks.
Thanks, SDOT!

WSBKeymasterThanks for sharing that. We have found them fairly responsive in dealings that WSB’ers have shared with us (and also in their communication dept.’s efforts to get information about various West Seattle projects). I should probably file something about the five-corners traffic signal heading south on Delridge at Roxbury etc. – but I’m not 100 percent sure whether it’s the city or county’s signal! – the southbound green light seems to last for approximately five seconds, and we’re noticing it more now that we’re heading into White Center more for our role in whitecenternow.com … TR

credmondParticipantTR, I was at that corner waiting for the 22 quite a lot when they were installing those new lights – they were all SDOT crews, not a single county crew anywhere. The work took several months as they did one intersection at a time, first putting in the new poles, then the new lights, then the new control box, then taking out the old -blahblahblah. Fascinating way to waste a few long moments with the infrequent bus service we actually have. So give SDOT a ring about the issue. As a ped in that part of town, I never worry about car light timing so I’m actually not conscious of who’s being held up in what lane.
