buttercupParticipantTo the woman in the white van/SUV talking on her phone and driving on my side of road Friday afternoon at 12:45pm .I wagged my finger at you (wagged, not saluting you) and you got upset and stopped to get snotty at me. I was driving on the PROPER side of road and NOT talking on my phone. I had 2 infant in my car and you get upset at me You are a menace as well as ignorant. Wish I had taken you picture and given to police.Oops, my phone was in my purse where it belonged.

JKBParticipantGo buttercup! Had similar exchanges myself, and am always a little horrified when people clearly in the wrong respond aggressively.
A question: what does the word “ignorant” mean in your post?
September 13, 2015 at 5:31 am #827758
buttercupParticipantA person who would force a confrontation when they are obviously wrong. I dislike the “full of myself attitude” people put forth.

dhgParticipantSelf-righteousness is out of control.
This morning I was driving north on Beach Drive when this b****ch in a white Honda Fit tail-gated me. I was not going to speed, there are critters and children that cross this road. Tired of her on my bumper, I slammed on my brakes. She was startled but didn’t slam into me. She laid on her horn for a full 10 seconds (oooh, that hurt) and then illegally passed me and zoomed down the street at least 50 to 60 mph.

JanSParticipantI simply pull over temporarily, and let those drivers that are tailgating go by….and pray silently (sometimes not so silently) that there is a cop ahead, and a hefty ticket. Never happens.
September 14, 2015 at 12:21 am #827761
dhgParticipantI’d happily pull over but then I think about the little river otter that ran across the road in front of me (successfully) and my friend’s marvelous cat that ran out in front of someone and didn’t survive it. I do not want these a-holes driving 60 on this road.
September 14, 2015 at 12:33 am #827762
JanSParticipantthat’s very true…
September 14, 2015 at 12:40 am #827763
mark47nParticipant@JanS, I hope the following helps; I was riding my bike west on Lander, approaching 4th. The driver, in a BMW, made a right turn right in front of me after looking right at me and giving me the bird. I locked up my wheels and almost hit him. A cop saw this and pulled over mr. BMW.

JTBParticipantLast week, a woman on Oregon SW just east of California in a white SUV was having a terrible time parallel parking with one hand on the steering wheel and the other holding a phone to her ear. My wife and I cracked up although I gave a wide berth in getting around her as quickly as I could.
Ignorant probably is an appropriate word because it connotes lacking knowledge or lacking awareness. Anyone driving with a phone in one hand and talking is definitely not aware.

miwsParticipantOh, mark, that is just beautiful! I hope the cop gave the dude a ticket, and did not let him go with just a warning.
My own taste of revenge, courtesy of a cop (and I’m pretty sure I’ve shared this here before), was 12 or so year ago, crossing toward the west, at 35th & Fauntleroy, over toward the Taco Time corner.
This was early morning, on my way to work at Seattle Filmworks, and after I got the walk light I looked to make sure nobody was running the left turn light that had just turned red, coming off the Fauntleroy Expressway.
It was clear, so I started across. Next thing I know first cars in the line of eastbound traffic stop, at least one hits the horn, and out of my peripheral I see this little white car running that very red light.
Next thing I see, is an eastbound Motorcycle Officer hit the lights and siren, and lane split between the cars. I gladly let him go in front of me.
He caught her down at the red light crossing Avalon. Glad it was a Motor Officer, don’t know if one in a car could have made it in time.
I hope he gave her a ticket.

JanSParticipantThanks, Mark :)

AJPParticipantLOVE that story Mark!!! Instant kharma is glorious!
September 14, 2015 at 5:12 pm #827768
anonymeParticipantI’m convinced that BMW stands for Bloody Moronic Wanker.
September 14, 2015 at 9:59 pm #827769
metrognomeParticipantanonyme – I like your British-flavored moniker for the driver, but BMW is a German car (ok, Bavarian.) My German is pretty bad, all I could come up with is ‘Wiener’ or the longer ‘Wienerschnitzel’ for the ‘W.’ Anybody have suggestions for the ‘B’ and the ‘M’?
unfortunately, it is highly likely that the BMW driver considers it the cyclist’s fault that he got a ticket.
September 15, 2015 at 5:43 am #827770
JeannieParticipantWell, metrognome, it isn’t perfect German, but “Beissen mir Wiener” might work. “Beissen” is “bite,” “mir” means “me.” And that might reflect the attitude of the driver in question.

velveteenaParticipantMy son has two jobs that have put him out in traffic for several years now. He sometimes entertains me with his rants about other drivers. Very unscientific, but based upon empirical evidence. He says BMW drivers are the worst. Just watch one, and before you know it they will do something outrageously wrong and stupid. Could this be you????
Don’t get me started on the cell phone issue. We all need a clear reminder that driving and talking/texting is STILL illegal.
September 15, 2015 at 7:55 pm #827772
JanSParticipantvelveteena…I second that reminder…
September 15, 2015 at 8:22 pm #827773
JTBParticipantI can easily slip into a mindset that assumes all drivers of 4×4’s are inconsiderate in how they park in parking lots. That’s probably not true. Some are probably just bad at parking. Some others are truly inconsiderate. And some do a good job of parking.
I suspect the BMW theme pertains more to some models than others.
It’s not surprising that vanity license plates tend to convey something about the driving style of the driver. I wasn’t surprised when the red caddy that tailgated me and sped by on the bridge the other has a “BADCAD” plate.
I’ve decided to be entertained by all of this rather than put out.
September 15, 2015 at 8:51 pm #827774
velveteenaParticipantJTB, good for you for being so philosophical. Still, it’s rather difficult to take that stance after a recent brush with death by Beamer.
September 15, 2015 at 9:13 pm #827775
JTBParticipantVV, just to be clear, my sense of entertainment refers to the situations/incidents I mentioned, none of which involved a brush with death.
Mark’s story is indeed strange and disturbing—someone getting angry enough to finger a bicyclist and cut them off. It would have been nice to know what the outcome was with the officer stopping the guy, but apparently Mark wasn’t able to stick around to see or be available as a witness.
