Every morning, the same guy smokes/vapes INSIDE THE BUS SHELTER. He knows it’s rude. I’ve attempted to engage him in conversation to no avail. He has earbuds in and can hear me but just ignores me when I’ve asked him to step outside the bus shelter to vape. I’m really sick of my hair smelling like that crap, and would like the equal opportunity to use the bus shelter during inclement weather or actually, at any time without someone smoking in it. So, what to do about this?

    Call the cops.

Calling the Cops is a waste of time for something like this.

    .

Just curious to what it is you reek of? We have plenty of vape folk at our office and I’ve stood next to them and been with them as we go to lunch and whatnot and it’s odorless except for a faint fruit smell for about a second. I wonder if the person at the stop has their vape turned up too high? I don’t think there is much the police can do even if they were to come is it is “technically” not smoking therefore no laws are “technically” broken.

Carry a small box of some super foul smelling thing and one of those mini fans. Open the box and point the fan right at his nose? ;-)

It’s a heavy chemical smell with some cinnamon in it. I really don’t think I’m being too picky. My golden rule is if you wouldn’t do it on the bus, then you shouldn’t do it in the bus shelter. The entire shelter is a cloud of white every time he exhales. I have video. There’s no good reason he can’t do that outside the shelter.

Wake, I like that. I think I’ll just commute armed with a bottle of scented Febreeze.

And it’s not just me – I’m offended on behalf of the disabled woman who commutes with us, and would never say anything, but really needs to sit down while waiting for the bus.

Hi Lindsey, You have every right to be offended as god knows what horrific chemicals are in the vapor. King Co. passed regulations that went into effect in 2011 that treats e-cigarettes and vaporizers just like smoking. They are illegal in the same places that cigarette smoking is…like bus shelters. I hope these links at least help you to formulate a plan!

Carry a small fan, type women use for hot flases and point it in his direction, maybe then he would understand your point.

Thanks Duskyviolet. I used your links to file a complaint with Metro and ask for a transit cop to stop by. Until then I will continue to politely ask him to step outside the shelter.
