MargLMemberI’m keeping my fingers crossed that the neighbors start running out of boom sticks at around 11 so my kiddo can get some sleep! I so wanted to take a bucket of water 2 doors down and just dump it on the a$$ clown with the lighter tonight.

angelescrestParticipantAlki started last night…actually two days ago with an occasional ground-shaking explosion. M-80s (and everything else. including smoke bombs?)–non-stop. The poor dog is so freaked. It is deafening.

pigeonmomParticipantLet’s all road trip it to Canada next 4th. :-D

angelescrestParticipantA stinky, meaty Junkyard bone is keeping the dog completely pacified. Wish I’d thought of it sooner.

JoBParticipantangelcrest..
i wish a stinky meaty junkyard bone had worked.
We went for a ride a couple of hours ago and returned to a home that still sounds like it is in a war zone:(
at least i now have very tired dogs…
will they be unable to buy more tomorrow?
July 5, 2009 at 8:04 am #671083
JanSParticipantstands are closed, Job…they can’t sell after the 4th from what I understand…

JoBParticipanti can only hope they gave it all they had last night

mpentoParticipantI did not read all the comments but I must say I enjoy living in Arbor heights. I don’t mind a few noisy nights when the rest of the year everyone seems to be so considerate. Now if you yanks could just apply the same to your international policies Ha Ha!

JoBParticipantmpent…
fireworks take on a whole different meaning when you have pets that are traumatized by them…
July 6, 2009 at 4:53 am #671087
The Velvet BulldogParticipantNever mind July 3, what are these fools celebrating tonight?? That we all have to get back to our lives tomorrow? Looks like the cat will be spending another unhappy night indoors.

MargLMemberI was driving down to Safeway and passed a house near 102nd and 30th and the stack of spent cardboard fireworks tubes and boxes is literally 3 feet high by 3 feet wide. It’s insane! I had to laugh it was so incredible!

JoBParticipantit was bearable last night… she just wanted to snuggle under my arm:)
pigeonmom.. a road trip to Canada next year sounds pretty good right now..
July 6, 2009 at 3:12 pm #671090
sam-cParticipantwe went to Canada for 4th of July one year- (the last time it fell on a Monday I think) it worked out great- got to watch fireworks on the horizon during the drive home.
yes, definitely am considering getting away from my neighbors next year. the debris they left all over the street is crazy. their fireworks were like the kind you see at professional shows. I’m glad they didn’t burn down the puget creek greenbelt. our dog was used to the racket by July 4, but the one year old was not- they woke him up 3 times before the end of that crap.

anonymeParticipantWe headed out of town yesterday (after very little sleep) which gave the air a chance to clear somewhat. Which brings up the issue of the environmental impact of all these fireworks, especially the illegal ones. At five a.m. Sunday morning (someone nearby still setting off M-80’s) the air in Arbor Heights was so thick with smoke and toxic chemicals it was unbreathable. Why bother with burn bans if this is allowed to go on unchecked?
Saw something else that was rather disturbing. Obviously, fireworks have a profound negative effect on pets & wildlife, not to mention innocent human bystanders. Right after a bomb went off a few houses down, I saw a bird fly erratically toward me and crash into a fence. It managed to right itself, but was clearly dazed – if not injured. This got me wondering if big bombs, like M-80’s, might cause permanent damage or death to birds. Any ornithologists out there who could comment?
