JT that may be the case now with Costco but back in the day when they started they just returned stuff without asking questions cause it was good customers service. I know cause I worked there during my college years. :)

I didn’t mean to come across so curt. I agree with you. They have always had great customer service. Except maybe those annoying people who want to always check your card to see if they can upgrade you.

JT that is so funny! When I graduated college I worked for the Corporate offices in THAT dept ie Executive Membership. :) Seriously, the push was to save members money but I could see where it would be annoying if you are constantly being asked how much you spend and if you would like to upgrade. LOL!

I have to say this Target is definitely a little strange. I can never seem to find anything there because it seems so cluttered. Hopefully they are just reorganizing and trying to find a balance amongst their management.

I agree, it seems like everything is always out of sorts. Disappointing because it makes it kind of hard to shop there, but I gotta love the convenience.

so first off the return policy is on the back of the receipt plus you can look it up online.

tahts why people should ALWAYS keep your receipts.

i don’t see anything wrong with the policy cause it is posted. people just don’t read it.

i do work for target, and it is a matter of organization and people who just mess up the store so bad that you can’t keep on top of it as much. plus new managers coming in and thats the gist of it.

i think i know the manager you are talking about! i tried to return a game that was given to my daughter for her birthday and was unopened still in its wrapper and the manager was this young tall skinny guy wearing a back belt and an attitude!! he said we could only exchange for the exact same game since no reciept and it was an electronic, dont even get me started on the argument that took place after that. In the end I took it to the factoria target and they gave me store credit no questions asked.

I find it interested that it hasn’t occurred to anyone that these people who are killing you with posted corporate policies are basically minimum wage ( or close to it ) drones just trying to get through the day without having to explain why they took back possibly stolen merchandise.

Most large stores design their policies so that the people facing customers have as little control over the situation as possible. To deter theft as well as to “streamline” day to day operations.

While its great shopping at a mom and pop who will cash a personal check, or dealing with costcos amazing return policy ( which has been reigned in in the last couple of years due to abuse) its totally unreasonable to expect the low paid mangers to endanger their jobs for you and your lack of reading comprehension.

When Target came to Seattle my mother was beside herself with joy as she hadn’t seen one since she left her native St. Paul. My family shopped there for years. Two and a half years ago my sister bought pajamas for me for Xmas from the Westwood Target which I attempted to exchange. Since I didn’t have a receipt, they said they’d give me store credit (which I expected) which had to be spent in the same department as the original purchase-huh? Doesn’t the money all go in the same coffer? I pictured not being able to find the pajamas I wanted and ending up wandering one department trying to spend money on stuff I don’t want, wasting the money and my time. I protested and was told by the “customer service” rep she didn’t write the rules so I asked to speak to the one who does, which stumped her. She beckoned the manager who could not provide a good reason for the policy nor could refer me to someone who could. I called my sister just to vent but she insisted on coming down with the receipt (a 15 minute drive) and got the money back. I told them I will never shop there again and have held to that. I requested my friends and family to also boycott or at least not to buy items there for me. Interestingly, my 14 year old niece had the same experience two days prior, but my sister thought she was exaggerating. She believes her now.

    Another Target Rant…

I was in the store last week, they had outdoor patio sets on sale. I found 4 pieces of furniture that I absolutely loved.. they were comfortable, colors on the cushions were great, just what I had been searching for!! A loveseat, chair, ottoman, and side table.

They only had two love seats in stock; one was the assembled display model, the other in a box -with visible damage to the furniture.

I found a clerk explained the I wanted to pay for these 4 pieces, but I needed them to be held for a few hours while I tracked down a truck from a friend or rented one.

They refused! They turned the sale down because they could not be held responsible for what might happen to the furniture after I left the store.

I will not be shopping there again.

We love Target. I even like their return policy. Twice we’ve purchased printers that quit on us, and twice they took them back as they were within the return “zone”, and they could easily look up my purchases with or w/out a receipt. We bought another printer elsewhere, and I spent many hours/calls spent on getting it replaced by HP. (Talk about bad luck with technology!) Because much of their clothing is so inexpensive, I do worry about sweatshop issues. Nice chocolate, great selection of Method products…too bad there’s no garden shop at the Targets in Seattle.

tip of the day…Alway keep your reciepts.

    Sorry I could not resist.

Actually, I too have encountered unbeleivable service at that Target, but some of the other stores as well. As a new member of the community from the Eastsie, it flips me out to see the suspectual critique. Hence it has spurred me to write a customer service piece to send to some of these stores.

Next time you enccounter one of these issue’s. Ask to see “the policy” in writing. Then if you dont get the answer or service you want, ask again, and again and call corporate. Best advice I have given folks thus far is…threaten the store you will Blog about it:)

i save my target shopping for when i drive to Renton for IKEA to meet a friend who lives over there…

their selection is better.. the store is cleaner.. and they are far more pleasant to deal with..

i especially save returns for them regardless of which Target i buy from because they have been pleasant and helpful.

Sometimes even with a chain it’s all a matter of current management.

I don’t care. I still like Target. Buy your stuff on your credit card and you can return it within 90 days.

My neighbor went into the Westwood Target last week, bought more than $100 in items, then went into the customer service area to ask them if they would call her a cab to get home. They said “no” – they don’t provide that service! Heck, even Safeway and QFC will do that for customers – c’mon Target!

JoB – I agree with you about the Renton Target. I work near there and they are great. I also take all my returns there.

Just curious, but has anyone brought up this thread to the current managers at Target? Maybe the District Manager or Supervisor? It could help.
