MBarrettMillerMemberCan anyone offer a cogent explanation for why profit in health care is sacrosanct.
I hope some “Republican Debate” host asks this question refusing to move on until he/she has received an in depth rationale….
USA is the ONLY country on the planet that has profit built into a health care plan…..
USA is the only 1st world country that does not have universal health care!!!
Is it always always always going to be about $$$$$$$ and not human values….

jamminjMemberbecause we have this notion that everyone needs to pull themselves up by the bootstraps (is that the correct terminology). Everyman, woman, and child for themselves. If you can’t afford health insurance, its your fault… but I got mine, nah nah nah.
Funny how many have that warped notion for individuals… but somehow big businesses, who garner record profits, still need to be coddled with tax breaks and subsidies.
Unfortunately, wall street rules this country. Whatever I can earn on my stock, do it!!!

redblackParticipantif i had the time and better resources (isn’t that always the excuse?) i’d organize a mission to take away congress members’ health care and benefits.
they tell us we’re free to buy any old insurance on the open market that we want; that our employers shouldn’t bear that cost; that public employees shouldn’t have cushy benefits. so why doesn’t the same austerity apply to them?
“sorry, pal. times are tough, gotta tighten our belts, and we just can’t afford your benefits anymore.”
that goes for retirees, too. what’s the taxpayer liability for congress members’ pensions, anyway?
yep. if i had the time and resources, i think i’d go after joe scarborough’s benefits first. three terms in congress and he and his family are set for life.
i also read somewhere recently that over half of congress are millionaires. in what way is that representative of the populace? and how can they possibly claim to know what the american people want, need, or experience when they themselves represent less than 2% of income earners?
[edit: not trying to start a fight here or be contentious. my point is that congress can’t possibly know what the middle and lower classes are going through just to keep our families healthy. so how can they possibly legislate the matter unless they face the same cutbacks that the rest of us face?]
