I just created this and will be distributing it to friends and acquaintances who have been following the latest Nickelsville developments. Feel free to pass it along to other folks who something about the issue but may not read the Blog.
I’ll give it a week and then report back on the results.
Note: There is no personally identifying information on the survey. You will not be asked for your name, your e-mail, or anything like that.
There ARE three questions where comments are allowed as an option. The comments are for my use only. They will NOT be published or shared with anyone.
Thanks.

DBPMemberIf you send the survey to other people, please send it to them along with a link to this Blog post. That way, in addition to getting all the necessary background language, they’ll be visiting the Blog.
Thanks.

i took your survey but am wondering just what you hoped to learn from it…
You seem to think the important question is whether Nickelsville should stay or go
I think the most important questions aren’t asked…
Do you believe the money Seattle is spending on homelessness is being spent effectively?
or..
Do you believe 24 hour shelters with secure lockers for possessions are necessary for homeless people trying to make the transition out of homelessness?
or..
Do you believe some form of regulated tent city or temporary camping facility is an option for temporarily housing Seattle’s homeless population?
or…
??????
but to finish the unasked questions in your survey…
yes, i do think little girls in Easter dresses are adorable..
and i like Popsicles..
and no i didn’t wear a hat for Easter.

DBPMemberJo, thanks for taking the survey. I’m going to publish the results here, but I am not going to draw any conclusions from them. Others can comment on the survey results (or survey bias) as they see fit.
In designing this survey, I tried as much as possible to remove bias from the questions, but regardless of how careful you try to be, bias will creep in. The English language being what it is, and people being what THEY are, there’s simply no way to create an unbiased opinion survey.
With a complex topic like this, the longer you make the survey, the more bias you introduce. I invited you to consult with me on the wording of the questions, but I never heard back from you on that. And frankly, I’m glad, though I mean no disrespect to you by saying that.

Depending on the response rate I get on this, I may be doing a weekly survey to poll Blog readers on how they feel about various forum topics and news items covered on the front page during the week. Doesn’t that sound fun?
Sample Question:
¶ On a scale of 1 to 5, how do you feel about taking surveys?

As of now, I’m going to stop talking about the political situation with Nickelsville. Which should come as a relief to you and others.
I know it will be a relief to me . . .

JiggersMemberDBP.. Would my taking the survey and thoughts help in exposing any truth? I think it this should be sent to the mayor’s office if you ask me.

DBPMemberI will be happy to send the results to the Mayor, Jiggers. Thank you for the suggestion. Just be aware that the results could surprise you.
I will not be taking the survey myself. And in the future, while I may be finishing up a few research projects related to Nickelsville that are already in the works, I’m done opining about this issue personally.
I’ve got enough stress in my life already without that.

DBPMemberWe’ve got 86 responses so far, which is very good. With Survey Monkey’s basic plan (free) I can collect 14 more responses. After that, they make me upgrade (pay) before I can collect more responses.
So this will be the last call. Anyone who hasn’t responded to this can do so now, if they wish.
Once again, the survey link is:

Talaki34ParticipantSome of the questions could have had multiple responses. Can you change the format to multiple and “All the above?”
April 7, 2013 at 3:13 pm #787224
DBPMemberFor the next one, I will try to do better.
But the NV survey is a done deal; I can’t change it. So if you haven’t taken it, please try to overlook the flaws and just answer the best you can.
Thanks, Talaki.
Also, I have a message for you but it’s in code. Something you said about NV on another thread turned out to be very helpful to other people who are working on this issue. So please know that you have made a contribution, whether you take the survey or not.

JoBParticipantI have been watching the latest conversation about Nickelsville develop here and in the press…
and it is sad to say that it has developed along the kind of either or lines that define your survry…
they do little to help the actual inhabitants of Nickelsville…
I want you to know that every negative “throw the bums out” comment written here and elsewhere is read at the Nickeslville nightly meetings…
and used to stir up that us against THEM sentiment among the residents that will lead to their participation in yet another confrontation that will leave them abandoned in another field in another neighborhood.
the latest battle cry?
Are we going to choose where we are going this time or are we going to let the city choose for us?
if shifting the problem elsewhere was your goal, you have met it. Nickeslville will move within the next couple of months or so.
if finding solutions for the people who live at Nickelsville who have no other choices was your goal.. you missed by a Mississippi mile.

JiggersMemberI just read the article that Ben Steiner wrote about Nickelsville in The Stranger. Very well done. He went right into the hornets nest to try to get straight answers.
