GenHillOneParticipantI have a billion questions from “who vets your phone calls?” to “do you really think you’re on a first-name basis with world leaders you’ve never met?” – but the biggest one is “how on earth could you have POSSIBLY thought this was real, Gov. Palin?”
It gets better – or so much worse – each day.

inactiveMemberOh man. That ought to be the last of the icing on that upside-down cupcake of a candidate.
There was a great comment in there – suggesting that the campaign staff were all Wasila High School graduates. That is so mean. But SO funny.
Gawd, it’s been a long few weeks. Good to know we are coming down the home stretch. But, I’m still going to practice my Canadian vernacular, eh?
Thanks for posting that GHO! I’m off to send the link to a few peeps!

AnonymousInactiveThis actually bothered me. Her staff is essentially McCain’s staff. She’s told to take this call and that it’s legitimate. These people are incredibly stupid or incredibly mean. Either way, it serves no one and I don’t think it’s funny to humiliate someone.

GenHillOneParticipant99% of the time, I would agree with you, JT, and I honestly can appreciate your empathy. There are just so many things about this, aside from the idea of a prank call, that disturb me to a much greater degree.

mellaw6565MemberOMG folks – this is so funny I can’t tell you. Most of you know I have not been one to pick on Sarah Palin on this blog as I usually refrain from saying something bad (my mom taught me that one) but C’mon – this was classic!!
What struck me as funny was the fact that it was clear that she didn’t understand what he was saying half the time and that’s why she missed some of the smartass comments they were making.
I actually thought she did a great job of being polite under the circumstances. It’s like on parent’s night at school – I may not always understand where they are coming from or they’ll say something crazy – so I have to stand there and smile and say “uh huh” as politely as I can.
In the long run, we expect any candidate to be polite to other world leaders, so on that one she gets an “A”. However, we also expect our leaders to fully understand the words of another world leader so we are not smiling when they are talking about world destruction.
We need a little humor on these last few days of a very long campaign – bet they screen her calls from now on!

AnonymousInactivePalin’s politics are as far from my own as one could get. I just disagree in general with her taking the fall for McCain’s ineptness at running a campaign. She was his choice. His staff is running the the show. They, and ultimately he, should be taking the responsibility for all these stupid moves.
Not that she didn’t jump to be in this position, but rather than criticize Palin, I’m frustrated that we have this caliber of decision making to look forward to if McCain somehow wins. The fact that a call like this could get through at that level is actually shocking. But maybe that is what you’re eluding to.

GenHillOneParticipantThat certainly is part of it for me JT. Radio guys said it took 4 days to set up the interview and they were told that they would have to be vetted by secret service; they indicated that they had been cleared. So presumably, someone pretty high up (not the person who handed her the phone) either had an epic security failure or something more shady took place. Either way, not a confidence builder.

acemotelParticipantjust a side comment, speaking of Palin – here’s her rally in FLA today without any McCain signs: http://tinyurl.com/57cu7x
she won’t be pranked again!

IrukandjiParticipantFrom now on, at least through the election, I will be answering my phone, “Hi, This is Sarah.”

November 2, 2008 at 3:44 am #646011
JoBParticipantthat was painful.

ellenaterMemberI am actually heartened that the world is unwilling to see this woman as a serious candidate in any way, shape or form!
November 2, 2008 at 4:03 am #646013
JanSParticipantOh, Mon Dieu..
November 2, 2008 at 4:12 am #646014
CaitParticipantI certainly hope that she knew this wasn’t serious. That’s what I’m telling myself. She was in on it. That’s what I have to think to myself to keep my blood pressure down.
