I’m curious what people think about Sarah Palin appearing on SNL tonight? I’m especially interested to know what conservatives think about it.

It’s too bad that this is what passes for campaigning now, I would have liked to see her do a press conference or appear on the Sunday talk shows first.

Bayou – As a conservative, I have nothing to comment regarding the politics of her appearance, but I think it’s great that she’s doing it.

I think it takes a very big character to go into a situation where she has consistently been the butt of so many jokes.

I’m glad she’s doing it and I think SNL could possibly have record ratings tonight. I’ll be watching! : )

I think it is smart of the GOP to not allow her to speak anywhere unscripted. She can do SNL, but keep her away from any open discussion talk shows.

Who was it that made the quip that Sarah Palin said she’d pose for Playboy so long as she didn’t have to do the interview? One of the comedians out there. Funny.

NR, I think it is funny of you to say you have no comment and then comment three paragraphs on her appearance.

Yes, but you contradicted yourself…typical Republican.

“Bayou – As a conservative, I have nothing to comment regarding the politics of her appearance…” – Me

That’s not contradictory, Zen. See that? The POLITICS of the appearance. I commented on her appearance in general, not on the politics of her appearance.

I can’t believe I have to explain this in such depth. Can you, seriously, not see the difference?

    Ignorant comments…. typical Democrat.

You said you had “nothing to comment on the politics of her appearance”.

Then you said you thought it was great that she was doing it, that you thought it took a big character to do that being the butt of jokes and that they would probably get great ratings because of it.

At least stand by what you said.

“In the end the Palin candidacy is a symptom and expression of a new vulgarization in American politics. It’s no good, not for conservatism and not for the country. And yes, it is a mark against John McCain, against his judgment and idealism.

I gather this week from conservative publications that those whose thoughts lead them to criticism in this area are to be shunned, and accused of the lowest motives. In one now-famous case, Christopher Buckley was shooed from the great magazine his father invented. In all this, the conservative intelligentsia are doing what they have done for five years. They bitterly attacked those who came to stand against the Bush administration. This was destructive. If they had stood for conservative principle and the full expression of views, instead of attempting to silence those who opposed mere party, their movement, and the party, would be in a better, and healthier, position.”

Well, one thing is true. Palin is *a very big character*. Now, if she only had character.

I guess my post was deleted. NR I’m sorry I gratuitously slammed you. I was crabby because I was stuck inside working on this gorgeous day for a job I don’t particularly enjoy going to. No excuse to take it out on others I know, but anyway, I went out and was kind of distracted the whole time by the thought of coming back here to apologize when I got home.

i loved how they mocked her! alec baldwin and tina fey didn’t even LOOK at her. during weekend update, she was being openly mocked and just sat there. amazingly brutal and delightful to watch. SNL allows people they like to mock themselves. in her case, they went for the jugular. (could have been much better, but still a delight to watch her implode.)

When Baldwin kept calling Palin “Tina” …I don’t think she was expecting that..very painful to watch.

The Rap was funny. But man is out culture ever in trouble if that “reformist” gets in the whiteyhouse.

I’ll bet SNL will be off the air within a year.

THere was actually a great article in the latest TIME magazine (of all places) about the image conveyed by the real Palin and the SNL Palin.

Both appearances of each are really getting blended into each other. I mean Tina Fey’s rendition actually takes the edge and the horror of the reality of the racist mean spirited ever frightening rightousness of the real Palin.

    I think it’s actually backfiring.

That’s all they could do?! Good lord. They could have done that with a cardboard cut out.

Remember that this woman was chosen to appeal to the darkest side of America’s psyche. She has political views closer to the Taliban or El Duche, then anything the founding Fathers had in mind. Sure she may look like an attractive cougar “hockey mom”, but she is really an extreme right fascist tool.

    Good point as always, FullTilt.

About her appearance on SNL: yawn.

flipjack: what do you mean that it’s backfiring? ….. that turning her into a caricature diminishes the horrible danger of her extreme politics? Interesting idea ….

yes, they could have done more, but what they did was mock her full force directly to her face. after re-watching the rap this morning, i cannot believe she allowed them to do that. they flat out slapped her in the face while she was sitting there. the time with tina fey was wasted, but the fact that seth meyers wrote a rap that spoke of all her evils was fantastic!

I missed it last evening but watched it this morning on line.

SNL did it as respectfully as possible without losing too much of their edge of describing her political divisiveness.

That said, she was a good sport through all of it, and I have to say I am still laughing about the Moose being shot in the Rap scene…

I might have to take a look at this SNL skit. Is it as funny as all the knashing of teeth and and spilling of guts and gore on this subject.

I agree its a rough go in this life, and the Republicans are trying to stick it to us in every way possible, but sometime you need to take a deep breath and think, at least I’m on top side of this ground.

NR, I like reading your point of view too. You have thick skin, and I admire that.

I usually love Alec Baldwin, but he was kind of lame. Palin did the best she could with that material. The rap song was better. Mostly because Amy Poehler is always hysterical. Palin seemed uncomfortable but made the best of it.
