thriftwaygirlParticipantI know there are other posts about the convention but…I am interested in what the others WSBloggers thought of Obama’s speech this evening?
I got a little misty eyed in a few parts of it, mostly because of my hope for America and Americans, not precisely for what he said.
What did you all think?

JenVMemberI listened to most of the speeches on NPR while cleaning the house tonight. I have to admit I was misty-eyed, cheering, and oh so proud to be an American tonight!

MagpieParticipantAs I just said in the other thread..no more weeny democrats!!! I am actually excited and I think that I might get to vote for a winner..doesn’t happen much in my life. I thought he was magnificent.

He seems to genuinely have more of an interest in the people than the office. He could do so much good for this country. This is the third election I am eligible to vote in, and none have ever been so important to me.

addParticipantI only caught the last 1/2 hour (will have to watch the rest on YouTube), but I thought it was a terrific speech – strong & steadfast yet inspiring and galvanizing. He did a great job. I felt all the more emotional because I had just come from the Atlanta airport where I saw a group of about 20 young Army soliders walking to their gate. I thought I overheard one of them tell a fellow passenger that they were heading to Kuwait and then Iraq. I felt so sad, I could hardly look at them, just thinking about how their lives will be so incredibly affected (or maybe even ended) from this point forward. We really have to get those troops out of Iraq!!!

cynic or not, i know you are too smart to want the alternative we are being offered…
i wish i was more fired up.. but fired up or not, electing Obama isn’t a luxury.. it’s a necessity…
so i am settling down for some hard work.

MissKMemberI felt not only chills watching Barack speak last night, but I actually felt inspired to seek out service opps. After this DNC it solidified my vote for the Obama/Biden ticket.

CaitParticipantI feel so fortunate to be able to vote for this man, and to live in a time when it’s actually possible for him to take the office. Being someone who has only been able to vote in the past two elections and has been very disappointed in the process and results, I’m holding out hope and can’t wait until November!

RSMemberHey all, totally not trying to being cynical or critical here, but what “work” are we all supposed to be doing now? We can knock doors and put up signs till the cows come home, but don’t we think Washington will go blue anyway? Other than give money, how are we supposed to help those swing states like Ohio and Pennsylvania? I always sort of thought that if the Dem. party was reeeeally committed they’d offer incentives to party members who moved to swing states! :) I was kicking myself in the last election for giving up my Ohio voter registration!!

charlabobParticipantThey’ll set up phone canvassing where you can call people in swing states. If you have vacation time, you can spend a week in a key state. Especially helps if you know the state — I campaigned for Dr. Dean in Iowa because I lived there for 5 years — I didn’t pretend to still live there; people were just impressed that a native “daughter” was talking to them about him.
And there’s always fundraising — don’t be lulled into the notion that the Dems are far ahead in fund raising.

As a former midwesterner, I do have to object mildly to your slogan — it doesn’t rain NEARLY as much in Cleveland. I didn’t ever have to use my “human grow light” until I moved to Seattle. :-)

RSMemberCharla- it’s true, Cleveland is much drier and sunnier. I used to live outside of the city, so I can’t hate on it too much. It was better than Detroit anyway. :)

MissKMemberI think we should be inspired NOT to sit on our hands anymore about what IS happening in DC. We should speak up, gather others who feel the same way, place pressure on the politicians who are guided solely through lobbyists, etc. We can not stay in this 8 year term any longer. We can not let another “president” act the way GWB has these past 8 years.
