Is anyone able to accurately decipher the new proposals for revised bus service to Arbor Heights? I’ve just spent a good hour on the Metro website, but many of the pdf’s seem contradictory and/or undecipherable, so I’m hoping others may be able to clarify. It appears that the stretch of 35th between 100th and 106th will now see double the amount of bus traffic, as the #21 will no longer turn on 100th. There will also be a shuttle added as an extension of Route #22. If I’m correctly understanding what I’m reading, this is disturbing to those of us living on that stretch of 35th for several reasons:

I- 35 south of Roxbury is a narrow two-lane street, with sidewalks on the east side only. The west side of the street is lined with open ditches. Where will the new stops be? Will homeowners have any say in this, or do we just come home from work to find that we’re now host to continual noise, trash, and cigarette smoke on our doorsteps?

Due to the narrowness of the street, heavier bus traffic will have a profoundly negative effect on the residents of this corridor in terms of additional noise and pollution – which also contributes to even lower property valuations.

Most houses are less than two dozen feet from the street, and most residents park on the narrow strip of right of way between the ditch and the edge of the street. There is little to no other parking available.

This section of the street has barely enough room for two buses to pass one another. We already have a serious traffic and speeding problem. While buses may actually help to slow traffic, it will also encourage crazy passing and speeding behavior as people try to make up for time lost stalled behind buses. More noise, more stress, more danger to pedestrians – already a compromised group on this corridor.

On the plus side, the changes will help some of us get closer to home. I just wish the details of the implementation were clearer.

Post the web link to the proposal. Are you on the sidewalk side of 35th? So if buses are not going to turn on 100th st then what happens to all the stops along 100th, Marine View Drive, etc…?

Here’s the link, you’ll just have to wade through the pages related to each route:

Much of the Marine View Dr. loop will be eliminated. The bus will turn west on 106th and go backwards from there. One of the charts states that #21 will run every 15 minutes all day, while another document says that there are 10 morning and 10 evening runs, with the #22 acting as an hourly shuttle off-peak. Totally confusing. If 100th is eliminated, where will the southbound stops between Roxbury and 106th be located?

I have deciphered that the 21 Express will head south on 35th, then instead of turning right on 100th it will continue to 106th, turning right at the 4 way stop. Then south on 39th to Marine View, and around to northbound 35th. The 21 local will no longer serve Arbor Heights, it will serve Westwood village. Those of us who catch the bus on 100th will have to go to 35th to catch it (the express)or I think the local will “start” at 35th & Roxbury. Yes, on 35th between 100th and 106th there will be busses travelling both ways, but it is only the express, which only runs in rush hour. For your non rush hour needs, the 22 “shuttle” will run hourly between the Junction, Gatewood, Westwood, Shorewood, and Arbor Heights. The idea is that you can take that to transfer to your other routes. But if I’m going to walk to 35th/100th to catch that I might as well just keep walking to Roxbury and catch the local! GRRRR…

oh, the every 15 minutes all day is for the “rerouted” 21 (local), meaning NOT in Arbor Heights

Will the 22 run both north and south on 35th, or is the loop one way?

Will all non-express buses during peak hours be eliminated?

Won’t the 21 exit on 100th to continue north on 35th after the modified loop?

It looks like I’ll now have to take 3 buses to and from my job in West Seattle, which is completely ridiculous. What a mess.

-Looks like the 22 will only run north on 35th. It will come from Westwood via 26th to 106th, then North on 35th. It appears it then goes to Roxbury to loop back to 26th back to Westwood village.

    – during peak hours it is express only, or the 22 shuttle. Non peak leaves the 22 as only option. I think the closest stop for 21 local will be 35th & Roxbury northbound.

-Nothing will run on 100th. The modified loop is 106th to Marine view instead of 100th.
