SubdaveMemberMy wife and I saw a sign for a new BBQ place called ‘Brickyard BBQ’ adjacent to the Admiral Pub on California Ave.
There were some people there cooking up some stuff and getting ready to watch the Seahawks game, so we stopped and asked for a little more information. We were told they would be opening ‘next Friday’ (which I’m guessing may be August 21) and that they would be smoking their own meat (and that they had a smoker that could hold 300 pounds of meat).
I’m hoping the food is good, West Seattle could use a good BBQ place.
We also saw some guys working in one of the old closed up taverns on Admiral (I think it was called the Admiral Benbow). We asked what was happening and were told they were opening a new tavern called ‘Shipwreck’ in early October and that the place next door was going to be a all-day breakfast place.

JanSParticipantSubdave…thanks for the information. I knew the BBQ place was gonna open soon, but had heard that only the tavern was gonna open…glad there will be a restaurant, too. It’s less than a block from where I live :)

WSBKeymasterThanks for the update on the barbecue place – we have done a couple of stories on them, in April when they first applied for a liquor license, and then again in late July:

(That’s the one in which they told us it would be “Texas” style barbecue, in response to a question asked here in the forum.)
At that time they did not want to commit to an opening date.
Re: the tavern, we have been by three times now trying to find somebody to talk to for a progress report. They haven’t applied for a business license yet (at least, it’s not in the city database) which is my other default for reaching businesspeople for information, since that database usually has a phone number.
The breakfast place would be entirely new information – haven’t seen or heard that anywhere. Will check the building permit database, since they’d likely have to have a permit for renovations.
Add all that to Porterhouse and the newly revealed plan for Angelina, and Admiral is taking the baton from Morgan Junction as the next hopping food/beverage district.
