trickycooljParticipantI’m surprising my grandmother in Germany with a Christmas visit. Her birthday is next week and my dad is going for a visit. I would like to get her a nice Christmas ornament for a birthday gift to let her know about my visit. (Better than just showing up as a Christmas surprise per my uncle’s suggestion. She’s 81 I don’t want to give her a heart attack!) My dad departs next Sunday so I don’t have too long to find something. Maybe at Avalon Glass? I suspect the Made in Washington store might have some or the other souvenir shops around the market zone downtown but I’d rather avoid the hassle if I can. I frequent the gift shops around the Alaska Junction and can’t remember seeing anything around there. Hallmark doesn’t usually release keepsake ornaments until July (I used to work at Hallmark years ago it’s a big event) so I’m at a bit of a loss without trying Amazon.

JanSParticipantAmazon does have some…and if you have Prime, can deliver in the next 2 days. Or call the Hallmark store and see if they have anything left over in the back room. Explain your circumstances. They may be able to point you in the right direction.

celeste17ParticipantI go with Avalon. I was in there recently and they have ornaments. They will box it for you and if you tell them its going to be traveling to Germany I am sure they will pack it so it can travel. Shannon and her husband are great at helping their customers.

2 Much WhineParticipantI am a glassblower. This seems like a pretty special occasion. I’d be willing to give you a hand blown glass ornament to give to your grandmother. I have about 60 (or more) already made. If you are interested you can contact me at breadlybeaver (please note that bradly does not have an “e” in it) at the standard ending for Google mail (hopefuly my high-tech coding system is enough to confuse the spambots). Contact me and I will take care of you. You are going to have a ball in Germany at Christmas – the Christmas markets are amazing (at least we think they are)!

trickycooljParticipant2muchwhine that is amazing! I will email you shortly. What a wonderful surprise after a long work day. :)
I’m very excited to visit at Christmas. This is my first time going at Christmas since I was 7 years old in 1991. Most the time we would always visit during summer or once I was in college and beyond I would visit in September/October for the lower fares. It’s been hard to tell mom I won’t be here this year with her family but as my American cousins have mostly all married and had kids the gatherings have gotten too complicated and it was the right time to finally see dad’s family for Christmas! :)

trickycooljParticipant2 Much Whine any chance you received my email? (Hopefully I got it right!) Sounds like my dad is going to swing by tomorrow evening to get everything from me before he departs on Sunday.

trickycooljParticipantThanks for the bump Mike! We were able to get in touch, timing didn’t quite work out this time unfortunately with my dad stopping by so soon I stopped at Avalon on my way home yesterday.
