I hope that I am doing this the right way – and please help me out if need be.

I live on 26th Ave.SW and have had several issues not only with mail delivery, but mail delivery people. Not only do we not get our mail until after 6 or 7 pm on most days, our random delivery people are unbelievable! It is not unusual to have the whole family strolling along with the parent as they deliver very slowly on a nice day…but they also walk along talking on their cell phones. Today was the icing on the cake for me…this female delivery worker walked up the block talking loud and clear about her family issues including several inappropriate words.

I decided to give the Trenton Post Office supervisor a call and this is what I was told by supervisor Freddy: who by the way had no idea what I was talking about when I told him I was going to contact the West Seattle Blog.

“We don’t have a policy about what time it (mail) is delivered as long as it is delivered.”

“They can walk along with their family”

“They can talk on their phone”

” She can say all she wants about her business if she wants everyone to hear”…..his bottom line was…

“As long as she is doing her job”

Then he said, “Mam, I think you are going overboard”

Sorry, but I just had to hang up – not impressed with this supervisor and wonder if those who live within the West Seattle Post Office or other neighborhoods have experienced the same thing?

Someone has to get their mail last, not everyone can get it delivered at 9:00 am. or 2:00 pm. I too am on 26th so I get my mail as late at 7:00 pm and yes, I would rather get it earlier too.

I wish lots of people were more considerate and not having loud cell conversations at the gym, in line at the grocery and while they walk their dogs in front of my house but that is not going to happen.

You have every right to feel the way you do but sadly I think you need to lower your expectations of the general populations actions because we just aren’t that considerate any longer – myself included.

It sucks to be last or close to last on the delivery schedule but would you be less unhappy with your carrier if they delivered sooner?

I live in Westwood, we’ve been her for 10 years and for the first 8, it was the same person every day, I knew when she delivered.

For the past year we never have the same delivery person day to day, so the mail comes at different times every day. Some days it’s not until 7:00pm.

I work from home and I get things mailed to me and it’s frustrating that the mail service is so unreliable. I spoke to one the carriers and he told me this route is their training route. So just when one person learns the ropes and also gets the route down, they’re transferred to their perm area and new one starts again.

Yep. Mail delivery has gotten spottier and spottier on 26th. We got our mail around 8:30 at night a couple of weeks ago (and we were anxiously awaiting the arrival of something in the mail that day so very frustrated!). Other days, it comes in the afternoon. We have different mail carriers all the time as well. It is just odd. I am glad you called though because I was wondering. Doesn’t sound like it was helpful, but it sure explains a lot about how random and inconsistent our service is when management has that sort of attitude!

As a government employee, I would think that talking on your phone while working is not allowed unless for emergencies – perhaps if they paid better attention, they wouldn’t deliver the wrong mail to the wrong boxes – or better yet – just not deliver it at all and return it to sender…These are just a few of the problems we have been having. I miss the very reliable woman who was on the route for a long time – she was awesome!

I don’t know what’s inherently wrong with them having their kids/family with them…

Possibly the fact that they are doing a half assed job because they are preoccupied hanging out with their family rather than concentrating on their job. Just a guess. Pretty sure I’d get canned if I brought my husband and children along with me to work just to follow me around. That’s not what they are being paid for and the mail might be delivered at a more understandable time if full effort was being put into the job. It’s called work ethic.

If their bosses aren’t telling them that it needs to be delivered by a certain time, why would time be a part of their work ethic? If it can be done at their leisure at any time of the day as long it’s delivered same day, there’s nothing wrong with how long it takes them, according to THEIR EMPLOYER. They’re government employees, you have to deal with them and on THEIR schedule; they are not a customer service based industry, it’s not like they are going to lose your business. Been to the DMV lately?

I have and often times am puzzled by the lack of effort there as well. Call me crazy, but I think you should do your best at work, regardless of who you work for. Curious if they are salaried or paid by the hour?
