WSBKeymasterEndolyne Joe’s sent this note earlier today and I never got a chance to mention it, way too busy. Tonight they’re in luau mode. Almost forgot till I got a note from Pam of Nerd’s Eye View (one of the sites on our Blogs page) who plays ukulele and says she and some others are playing at 7 and 8. So if you feel like getting into the island spirit, that’s apparently the place to be. — TR

JiggersMemberEndolyne Joe’s ahhh….no thanks. Never will I go there again.
July 31, 2008 at 11:21 pm #632793
elgregoMemberYeah, pass.
July 31, 2008 at 11:24 pm #632794
AnonymousInactiveWould either of you, Jiggers or elgrego, share why you don’t like Endolynes?
I’ve only been there once and I’m sure you probably posted the reason you don’t like it, but I’m curious why it gets a bad rap?
July 31, 2008 at 11:34 pm #632795
JenVMemberI have never had a bad experience there. Both the food and the service have been outstanding. I have seen so many people bash EJ’s on this forum.
I remember when I first moved here- that location was a mini-mart.

AnonymousInactiveJenV – I had a really good experience there as well. Was considering going back soon, as it seems like a cool place to have a drink.
I think the idea is a good one. The whole theme is different than anything else here. My surfer Dad, who I took there for lunch, really liked it.

JoBParticipantit’s ok..
i thought the food was overpriced for what i got..
but maybe i had been expecting too much having heard it talked up.
we probably won’t go back.. but i do go to the bakery next door a lot.

ToddinWestwoodMemberYou want Luau theme? Maybe I will have to finish the “Shipwreck Lounge” in my backyard/garage. Much Hawaiiana, (tikis, ect), velvet paintings and lots of bamboo.
who’s bringing the rum?
August 1, 2008 at 1:20 am #632799
JoBParticipanttoddinWestwood…
you finish the luau theme.. i will bring the rum and makings for smoothies for those us us who don’t do alcohol… honest:)

AnonymousInactiveJoB – I have to disagree. I thought it was extremely reasonable. For three of us for lunch was under $30, I’m not sure how many places can beat that nowadays (I guess, besides a McDonald’s or Zippy’s type place).
Obviously price is not the issue, so what is it that everyone dislikes? I can’t remember.

AnonymousInactiveI went there once a couple years ago after having only heard good things. One entree, one drink, was about $25 at that time. Not horrible these days, but not cheap either.
What I found was that it was ok. The person who ordered some fish thing, got a two inch square blob with a fancy drizzled sauce on it. That’s it. Nothing else on the plate, and she managed to only eat half because it didn’t taste very good.
I had a BBQ pork sandwich that while the flavor was fine, was so dry, I couldn’t eat it either. The third person did better by just sticking to appetizers.
Bottom line, it was expensive enough for me that I’d like good. Doesn’t have to be great for that price, but good at least. I haven’t been back.
NR, I guess us dems expect more for our money than you thought :) Or at least we don’t want to be throwing it away when we have social programs to support.

JiggersMemberThe food isn’t that great for its price, plus the service was non-existant. This was last summer. I prefer Jack-In-The-Box over them anyday.
August 1, 2008 at 6:15 am #632803
AnonymousInactiveWell, a Jack-in-the-Box taco is hard to beat, I have to admit. I used to live on those. Are they still $0.99?
JT – Not sure why this is suddenly a political issue, but ok. You’re more careful with your money than us Republicans. Whatever you say.

JanSParticipantI’ve been to EJ’s numerous times, and while the prices weren’t totally unreasonable, I was not impressed by the food – I found it extremely ordinary. That, I think, is the issue. For the price they charge, it should be better than that.

guidosmomMemberI have been there twice. The first time I had brunch/lunch, it was pretty good. The second time I had dinner and it was awful. They weren’t very crowded, yet I had to wait a long time to even have my order taken. The waiter made several mistakes (and my order was NOT complicated). The food was cold. I am not eager to go back, but also won’t give up if someone I am dining with wants to go. I think my second experience may have just been bad luck…

charlabobParticipantWe used to go and it was good — they have this quirky attitude toward service “You can’t sit down until your other party is there, even when the restaurant is empty.” They forever have “Meetings” which cause them to be closed during their business hours.
The food is mediocre and the service is inattentive unless they know you. They know me (sorry kids) so some of the issues have gone away *for us* but (everything is political, NR) I won’t go back because of the way people are treated when they aren’t “in”. And, as I said, the food is mediocre. I’ll put up with a lot for exceptional food. I suspect as chefs rotate through the system, the quality changes.

SueParticipantI’ve gone to EJ’s a fair amount in the past 2 years – but not often enough to be known as a regular. I’ve never had a problem with service there. The food isn’t the best I’ve had and I agree that the prices are a little high for what it is. But there are a lot of places I’d avoid before EJ’s.
August 1, 2008 at 2:27 pm #632809
JenVMemberwell, we started going there before the smoking ban, because we wanted to have a drink and not deal with the smoke. we were hooked after that. ….we have also been to a few of the other “Chow” restaurants and been impressed. But then again, maybe I am just easily impressed.
August 1, 2008 at 2:39 pm #632810
beachdrivegirlParticipantI used to really enjoy going there. Until one day last fall when we went for brunch. We went right @ opening, opened the door, and was yelled @ b/c they werent ready for customers. I was confused b/c it was after the (i believe ) 10am that they opened @ and the door was unlocked why yell @ me… I used to really enjoy the breakfast and will probably go back but for the moment taken a break b/c of the service i got that day.

ZenguyParticipantI must go to a totally different Endolyne Joe’s than the rest of you. Joe’s is one of my favorite places for breakfast on the weekend and two of us can do it for around $20 depending on if we have a Bloody Mary or not. The service has always been quick and friendly.
August 1, 2008 at 3:31 pm #632812
pamMemberI have to agree with the naysayers on this one – the first time we went service was terrible and food not great. Thought we’d try again as everyone has a bad day – same results. Not a big deal, just not interested in going back.
We like Bamboo on Alki for a tropical feel – service can suffer there sometimes also but food is consistently good.
August 1, 2008 at 3:35 pm #632813
JenVMemberI had one of the worst experiences ever at Bamboo. One of the few places that will NEVER get my business again. Next time, alcohol in the $8 cocktail, and some salad along with my salad dressing would be nice. (seriously, it was caesar soup! not even edible, and they wouldn’t replace it!) Service was terrible. But then again, I have found that most places on Alki, with the exception of Sunfish, bite the big one. Scenery doesn’t make up for edible food and good service.
August 1, 2008 at 3:36 pm #632814
JiggersMemberI like Bamboo’s $5 Bites and their $5 happy hour martini Monday’s.
August 1, 2008 at 3:43 pm #632815
MargLMemberWe had ditto results as Pam and a few others- OK food, a bit expensive, shoddy service – and a couple times the food was tepid or cold after a long wait and we did not want to wait even longer for a new meal.
It feels like a place where Chowfoods train their new chefs and waitstaff for work in their other restaurants. So – depending on how many “trainees” they have working on a particular day you could have OK or bad service. For us it’s been enough to make us not interested in going back.
It’s sad because it’s a place I reeeaaaallly -want- to like. And it’s tons better than the previous place Saffron Cow.
Luckily they apparently have enough patrons that enjoy (or accept) the service and food that they won’t go out of business.
I keep forgetting about Bamboo for breakfast. We went there once and I had a really good eggs benedict.
