    Greetings!

My husband and I are moving from Cleveland to Seattle at the end of this month. We visited Seattle a couple of summers ago and fell in love with the West Seattle area :) We are looking for a 2 bedroom house that allows cats for $1100 or less. It must have a dishwasher (I am amazed at how many places do not have one!) and W/D or hook-ups.

We have been looking on Craigslist and various other property management websites, but have not found anything that suitable yet. It seems that there may be a decent amount of places that may not be listed online, so if anyone has any leads we would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance!

That’s an ambitious wish list for that price range; good luck! $1100 in mid- to low-range for a one-bedroom apartment in the in-demand areas of West Seattle. Not to say it’s impossible to find, but it will be a challenge.

I agree with Sarah that what you’re looking for could be challenging to find. I’d keep checking Craigslist. The only houses near me for rent do not take pets, or I’d suggest those.

Another issue: are you trying to find a place sight-unseen before you move here? Or are you coming out here ahead of time to look and sign a lease? An individual landlord may be hesitant to rent to someone he/she has never met. When we moved here from the east coast, we moved into an apartment complex (not in West Seattle) that had a property management company, and they dealt with out-of-town rentals all the time. They had no problem renting to us without ever meeting us, and we were able to see photos/floor plans of the place online.

You may have to consider moving into a starter apartment that is not exactly what you want, but something to start with and then take a look at your leisure when you know the neighborhoods better. The apartment we moved into originally was only home for a year – we then had time to explore different areas and know where we really wanted to live, especially factoring in that we now knew where we’d be working too and what the commute was like.

    Good luck!

I have a house that my tenant is vacating, after five years of renting, but the rent is $1250.00. It does have a dishwasher, w/d, two bedrooms, plus a den and an office. Send me an e-mail at farvid18@hotmail.com if you are interested.
