SarahScootParticipantNo; Mural, Altamira, and Link are each significantly more than $1400/month for a two-bedroom unit. When I was looking early last year, $1400 at those places barely covered a one-bedroom apartment.
That said, it is quite possible to cover that wishlist at that price point. My husband and I have rented a 2 br., 1.75 ba. condo for the past 18 months for $1400/mo. Ours includes paid basic cable, natural gas (for the fireplace), W/S/G, in-unit laundry room, lots of storage space, two parking spaces in the secured garage, and a building gym. Near 35th/Avalon, right on bus lines and walking distance to Alaska Junction. We are moving out at the end of this month because we’re buying a house, but it’s been a great place to live.
Unfortunately, our condo unit’s owner is trying to sell, so she will not be re-leasing anytime soon. But point is: it’s definitely possible.

sunshineParticipantYour best bet is to spend a little time driving or biking around the neighborhood you want. Many of those little 2 bd west seattle rental gems never get advertised any further than a “For rent” sign stuck in the front yard!

ellenaterMemberJust so you know, it’s tough. I have a pet and am basically looking for the same criteria. If she has a cat and not a dog, it might be easier. I have been looking for a bit and am coming up empty handed. Good luck to your friend.
(and Altamira, Link and Mural all start at around $1,700 for a 2bd.)

JanSParticipantaha..I was not sure, as they really don’t publish their rates readily in their websites. Definitely too high priced for us normal folk. Wonder what the vacancy rate is?

chrismaParticipantYour friend is aware that the viaduct is coming down (at least that’s the plan) and the the commute from WS to downtown is going to become not so easy, for a couple-three years right?
With that caveat, I think the idea of driving around the neighborhoods is a very good one. When we were looking for a place, we found a house near Graham and 48th for $1,400 a month, and more than a few houses down in Arbor Heights and Roxbury in that price range or even a little less. Now, that’s not quite the Junction, but there are a lot of houses of all sizes and prices all up and down off California and Fauntleroy. I get the sense that many are advertised only by word of mouth or signs on the house.
You might also check with some of the agencies on California: Keller Williams manages some rental properties, and there are a couple of other agencies as well. Associates West is another, I think. Sorry, can’t remember the names of them, but a Google search should get you some names. “Property Management 98136”

UrbanBuildMemberHi Rainy Day,
I just saw a rental on 48th Ave. SW just south of SW Edmunds St. They have a post with flyers out front. It’s in a nice nieghborhood and renting for $1,275/mo. It’s a 2bdrm/1ba with a garage. Not sure about pets. Good Luck!

HunterGParticipantThere is a home right next door to me that rents for about $1,200, if you do not use scented horrible laundry detergent or play loud music, I’ll tell you where it is. =D

jmksMemberI pay (an overpriced) 1075 for a 1bdrm, and it’s a steal for the location. I was in talks with Mural and Altamira before moving here- the prices are obscene. If you friend is in a position to own, condos in W Seattle can be purchased for less than half the cost of renting from Mural (and the like). A tad more as you move to downtown, but not enough to make it a deal breaker. (I’m looking and cost-wise, W Seattle is a terrible choice.)
