transplantellaParticipantI usually manage to hold out until at least mid to late October. This is the earliest I have plugged in the heater, just couldn’t deal with the frigid hands and feet one more day.
And we had all the doors and windows open just a few weeks ago….:-(
Love you summer. XOXOXO

kayoParticipantIt went from summer to November overnight this year. Missing the warm September we had last year!

jwwsParticipantFeel your pain. I broke down and put heat on for a few hours today, but it is off for the night and hopefully a few more weeks! I am NOT ready for the cooler weather, but hubby is doing a happy dance over snow in Cascades…..

JoBParticipantpraying for a few more days of sunshine so my remaining tomatoes can ripen…

seaopgalParticipantAnd they say the forum is boring … :)

squareeyesParticipantI turned on the gas fireplace on Friday; the pilot mechanism died the next day and service can’t come until mid next week.
So I pulled out the electric radiator and plugged that in. The outlet started buzzing which was a first (love that 70 year old wiring). Plugged it in elsewhere. Then I placed a call to a highly-recommended (here) electrician to inspect the scary outlet who has not called back. Time to call someone else. It must be autumn!

JoBParticipantdoes anyone know what i did with the remote to the space heater next to my computer…
i noticed it wasn’t where i though it should be this summer.. but it seemed so unimportant then ;)

JanSParticipantJoB…fried green tomatoes?
October 3, 2013 at 1:22 pm #798206
JoBParticipantplease let the sun come out today
if it doesn’t i will be forced to ripen them on the windowsill..
except i don’t have a south facing windowsill
so i will be forced to clean my kitchen table off :(

TanDLParticipantDefinitely chilling off at night, now. Hope you aren’t forced to clean off the kitchen table.. :) Made me laugh because I have one of those, too.

JoBParticipanti used the space heater in the office today
but i am not ready to clean off the kitchen table
not even for tomatoes

sillygrrlParticipantJoB I read on a Tilth pamphlet that was linked from our website that said to just go ahead and pull the green tomatoes and let them ripen in a non-sunny spot. Otherwise the tomatoes will get mealy like the grocery store tomatoes. Also I think your plants can be damaged by the cold nights anyway. Planning on pulling my plants today. Good luck!

JoBParticipantsilygrrl..
in the past i have pulled them and hung them upside down on a sheltered porch… or on the curtain rod just inside an unheated room…
i have already cleaned off the back half of the kitchen table.. but will leave stems attached.
i am risking waiting till tomorrow…
most of them will go into sauce anyway..
