I live near California and Edmunds. All today today there has been an intermittent ~2.84kHz tone*, sounding at irregular intervals and lasting for about five seconds. I’ve measured the intervals to be between one and five minutes.

I’ve heard about the “hum” but this is a higher pitch than what I would normally consider a hum. It’s been bugging me all day so I got a recording of it if anyone is interested.

Scott, I live very close to you on 41st between Edmund’s and Alaska. Now I was out all day yesterday, so did not hear that particular sound. However, one sound I hear a lot is a high-pitch beeping which I have always assumed was the back-up beep from trucks delivering to Safeway and/or involved in the construction all around us. Could that be what you’re hearing? Or entirely different?

Thanks, Sue. This wasn’t a truck backup sound; that’s more of a beep-beep while this was a constant whine that lasted around five seconds. It also wasn’t loud like those beep-beeps, but more like the soft piercing whine emitted by poorly shielded electronics. The sound persisted through Monday morning and hasn’t come back. If it does, I’ll upload the recording I made of it somewhere.

I too have been hearing a hum of sort. More like a fog horn. I just posted my own topic about this:

i have been having a hard time sleeping. Since a little before midnight this consistent fog horn sound has been going off. We live in Gatewood on the east end of Myrtle street near California intersect, so we do tend to hear these sounding horns here and there since we’re relatively close to the water and ferry terminal but it has been SO LOUD and non-stop at this point. Is anyone else hearing this? I know it was foggy on the water most of the day and this is only our 3rd year living in WS but this is tough for a light sleeper like myself. Am I straight trippin’?

Come on over to High Point where no less than 4 SHA houses have had their smoke detectors going off with an irregular low battery beep since MAY. Before Memorial Day! I have repeatedly emailed seattle housing authority and they won’t go fix them. Every time I opened my windows this summer…. Beep…beep………..beep……………beep…..beep
