I’ve found rain water dripping into my attic from the seam around my chimney. Any suggestions on hiring someone to replace and seal the flashing up there? It’s a centrally placed chimney on the hipped roof of a 1.5-story house. I imagine it’s a simple enough job that I could do it myself, but roof walking is not an option for me these days.

Keep us posted if you do find someone. Our chimney cap busted its soldering and landed on the lawn last big windstorm a couple of weeks ago and we need someone to reinstall or replace the mesh screening/cap connection. I also am out of the roof walking business these days, though I’d not mind it as we’re a one-story with a not-very-steep classic 50’s ranch roofline.

The only other WSB forum thread I can find about roof leaks is from 2007 and the responses to it essentially consisted of plugs for a few full-roof replacement contractors instead of repair or maintenance services. I can’t help but whine that I am baffled by the lack of response to this leak repair thread started two weeks before the current (2-16-14) downpour that won’t let up and is forecast to last several more days.

I recd.a referral from Sound Oil Company for someone that they use for repairs. It is “Safeguard Chimney Service Company” at 206-624-6519. Father & son -they have been in business for many many yrs. They only do repairs and

don’t clean chimneys so I couldn’t use them but they referred me to another company that does.

Same thing here… could REALLY use new flashing after the last wind storm and the current rain.

Our roof was put on by Jorve a year before we bought the house. Ten years later — during a powerful storm — the chimney flashing started to leak. We called, they sent someone out *right away*, even though it was nearly midnight (and still storming)! The poor guy was up on the roof, installing a tarp to prevent further leaks, and the next day a crew came out to fix the flashing. Because the tarp had been attached to the roof, they replaced the entire area of shingles. No charge!

Amazing customer service, when they say warrantied, they really mean warrantied!

    Hi All,

I’m a local contractor here in West Seattle and I’ve done lots of roof repair work. In most cases bigger companies will sell you on a new roof or much larger patch job then necessary. I’ve done lots of flashing repair work here in West Seattle (especially during these winter months). I’m licensed, insured and bonded and come recommended here on the blog.

Feel free to contact me anytime!
