pigeonmomParticipantOops! I don’t love you THAT much, didn’t mean to post twice….wonky cell phone post.

CaitParticipantYeah… there are about 5 dog themed threads at the moment. It’s a bit excessive. I think I know how every regular poster on this blog feels about dogs, where they should be, where they should be leashed, etc.
I love cats personally, but I could see where people wouldn’t like them. They don’t need you as much as a dog does. That’s why I like them though.

jMemberWord….
March 17, 2009 at 4:24 am #660788
melissaParticipantAnd they %&^$ in my raised beds! My dog would never think of doing such a thing!
March 17, 2009 at 4:41 am #660789
CaitParticipantLOL!!! Cats will leave their droppings in your raised beds. Dogs are conscientious enough to eat it, roll in it and then track it inside.
March 17, 2009 at 4:41 am #660790
villagegreenMemberYeah he would. He’d just eat afterwards so you wouldn’t realize it.

CaitParticipantVillagegreen, you were typing while I was!! :)

BonnieParticipantI didn’t say I hate dogs. I don’t like dogs. AT ALL. So I’ll just stay away from them. Period. They stink, they smell. I don’t like them.
People can hate cats all they want. I don’t care. It’s not going to make me like dogs.

JeannieParticipantI like cats, if they are kept indoors. I don’t like cats that kill the beautiful songbirds that grace our yard.

CaitParticipantAvian assassins bug me too.

Dog Free ParksMemberHi All: Hey vincent — nothing like a diversion to get people diverted from the actual, real issues of dog overpopulation… etc. It isn’t about “dog hate” — it is about respect for other people’s rights to enjoy what parks were established to provide… which, wasn’t for doggie playgrounds… Unless you can find some mission statement that says something different (let me know).
All I am asking for is a place where there aren’t any dogs, especially on beaches on the Sound — since, it is clear from this blog and from just about every experience I have had with dog owners, that they don’t give a crap about other people’s rights to quiet enjoyment of the natural world.
If you want to argue about whether domesticated dogs are part of the “natural world,” don’t… it’s a losing argument I have seen lost so many times.
As for cats, as with all your allegations about the benefits of dogs, there are benefits to outdoor, even feral cats, from the standpoint of vermin control. Possibly, a few sick birds will get nailed by feral cats, but I have yet to see a healthy bird actually get caught by a feral cat.
Also, for sure, they control rats. So, some real-world benefits.
I wish I could take this thread as if it is just a parody… but even as a parody, it is really just for the purposes of distraction from the real issues of out of control dog owners and dogs.
In that regard, it does this community a disservice and it goes to prove just how little respect dog owners generally have for the rights of non-dog owners.

JoBParticipantDog Free Parks…
don’t be lumping all dog owners together. There are more than enough of us who obey the laws and make a real effort to keep our dogs from annoying people…
those blue plasic bits waiving in the wind aren’t flowers.. they are clean up bags that we use to pick up after our precious pets…
And once in the habit.. we as often as not stop to pick up the litter that humans leave behind too.
People litter is far too tempting for our pets… it’s self preservation…
As for what some people do in our public parks… and on our beaches…. my dogs wouldn’t be seen in public behaving like that..
and they lick their bottoms…
It’s a pity you can’t appreciate watching dogs play under the supervision of responsible dog owners.. but that is your personal problem.. not a need for changes in public policy.
There are already plenty of laws… what we need is enforcement so that irresponsible owners don’t eliminate opportunity for all…
As for all that nature you want to observe without interference from other people’s domestic animals…
if you want a beach that is patrolled and dogless.. all you have to do is go down to the lighthouse at the bottom of discovery park… incredible beach… no city views.. and dogless.

JoBParticipantI was in Flagstaff Arizona last month and got to see first hand what a hands off policy on feral dogs and cats can do…
i am sure the rescue people there would like to do better.. but they just don’t have the funds to control the problem.
We saw geriatric dogs abandoned at tourist destinations.. and had at least 3 families of feral cats begging at our patio door…
It was enough to break my heart..
especially after i called the rescue people to inquire about neutering and was told that they didn’t have the resources even if i donated much of the cost.
I had to just walk away…
and i don’t have cats.

beachdrivegirlParticipantDog free parks; maybe you should write to the parks department as much as you type here about your dislike for dogs and a need for a dog free park. or better yet dont b&*ch about the dogs but join start a group for dog free parks…

vincentMemberI still think dogfreeparks needs a hug, I mean anyone who registers on a local message board with a name like that doesn’t get out enough.
Heres the paragraph where I could waste time talking about facts about how many dogs vs children exist in this city, and how cats spread ringworm and kill songbirds or any other valid point on the subject.
but thats not what dogfreeparks wants, he wants a rich sounding board for him to tell his story about how those horribly four legged terrors pooped in his sammich one day. And go off on his multifaceted rambles about everything that he personally sees wrong with whatever the subject at hand is.
we get it, you don’t like dogs, You do not like them here or there, you do not like them anywhere. You do not like them in the park, you do not like them chasing larks, You don not like them near your car, you do not like them at the bar.
did you have any additional point to add?
March 17, 2009 at 7:20 pm #660803
austinMemberIt would be weird if cats were really big, like tiger sized or maybe bigger, and there were a bunch of giant feral cats sleeping in trees and chasing down bicyclists and whatnot. Also what if everyone still rode horses everywhere!
