JoBParticipantMalarkey!
there. I’ve publicly uttered the word and it is official.
though i suspect everyone but me has known for some time …
i am grateful that they didn’t tell me.
after all, who really wants to know that the young-uns around them really think you are cute in a maybe not so good way…
but you know what…
everyone smiles an Uncle Joe and tolerates him
and after they make mutual fun of him
they go home and think about what he had to say…
after all..
a colorful way of putting things is one way to make people pay attention…
we seem to have forgotten the meaning of the word experience..
as a community we certainly don’t value it much anymore
experience doesn’t mean that things need to be the way they once were
but if you don’t know how things were
or how we got the place we are now
you can’t figure out what you might do to prevent making the same mistakes
over and over
there are several mistakes of my youth that i don’t want to see repeated
and the majority of them weren’t even mine
there is no shame in being old..
not even in being an old codger…
the eyes hiding behind my trifocal lens have seen a lot
if you miss the twinkle.. that’s your loss
cunning beats youth and inexperience every time ;->

DBPMemberJoanne, I esteem you not just for your wisdom but for the many acts of kindness I have seen you do. I know of at least one person’s life you’ve saved, and I’m sure there are many others.
I have seen you give relentlessly of your time, your money . . . even your health . . . without any thought of reward, to say nothing of gratitude.
Sadly, I have seen your generosity repaid with scorn more than once. But you always just shrugged it off and carried on.
Where others would have grown cynical, you have grown circumspect. Where others would have thrown in the towel, you have wiped your brow and stepped back in the ring.
Experienced?
Sure, I’ll buy that.
Old?
Huh-uh. Sorry dear.
You don’t know the meaning of the word.

redblackParticipantjo: i’m proud to call you my kooky aunt jo, and i’m glad to have met you – if only briefly. we should do it again some time.
:)

miwsParticipantAuntie Jo, I don’t make fun of you, (which you probably already know)
;-).
But, one gossipy type thing I actually do, mutually, when discussing you with others, is to talk about how helpful you have been in my life, and the lives of many others.

JoBParticipantahhh… you guys are so sweet…
but the larger point i hoped i was making is that I am proud to have joined the ranks of Uncle Joe..
we need more Uncle and Auntie Jo(e)s in this world.
we need more people who are willing to speak up and call malarkey period.

HydrangeaMemberI feel like I came in in the middle of something. What is this in reference to?
October 16, 2012 at 6:19 pm #773851
JoBParticipantHydrangea
it is in reference to the description of Vice President Joe Biden as your crazy Uncle Joe who came to dinner.
I chose to post it under the general topic instead of under politics because i believe that both the need to have some respect for those with enough life experience to put current events into context and the need to speak up transcend both the current election and politics.

JoBParticipantkootch..
now there you go again..
i think both Uncle Joe and I will see our psychiatric diagnosis from qualified health care practitioners.
Instead of from people who can only seem what they have already decided is there.
