trickycooljParticipantHeading to the Peninsula on Friday for the weekend. Staying north of Forks in the NW corner of 101, pros/cons of Ferry vs. Narrows? And for Ferry what route? Fauntleroy-Southworth seems convenient, I’ve had both Seattle-Bainbridge and Edmonds-Kingston suggested to me. But seeing as how it’s Friday morning I’d rather not drive through the morning downtown slog. I grew up in the south sound so I have zero interest in going the realllly long way clockwise up 101 via Oly/Aberdeen.

waynsterParticipantFaster to go south then head over the narrows no toll going west or wait in ferry line traffic not bad either a little slowdown going past the tacoma dome due to construction about it in the morning ……

trickycooljParticipantHmm, I think I’m still leaning ferry just because I so seldom have a reason to ride it. :) My new car is unfortunately 14’1″, think they’d notice?
JoB – I read the announcement on the Fauntleroy/Southworth run and they’re still using 3 boats just a lower capacity. According to the demand time table Friday’s until about lunch are all green indicating little to no wait.
Now the tough part on deciding what to see on the way in Friday, especially if this supposed rain really comes in Hurricane Ridge might not deliver on views. Saturday is dedicated to the Hoh and the beach.

rwParticipantferry for sure, either Southworth or Bainbridge. AM loads should be moderate on each. Much less stress than i5 to 16. Early lunch in Pt Townsend?

JoBParticipantif the ferry is running green i would take it…
although the drive along the canal from the bridge is a stunner…
i think the lavender is still in bloom and sequim is in a rain shadow :)
but don’t tarry too much.. that drive always takes longer than you think
and if you find you make it that far early enough in the day you can always stop at Sol Duc Hot Springs for a dip

DaveBParticipantIt’s about 50/50 from my perspective for BI ferry vs Narrows.
If you take the BI ferry and have some extra time, take the opportunity to detour to Port Gamble.

trickycooljParticipantFauntleroy – Southworth was definitely the way to go! Really enjoyed being dropped off practically at my doorstep yesterday. Who would have thought planning this trip a month and a half ago that we would experience the strongest windstorm ever recorded in a summer month. On the plus side the cabin owners gave us a discount to spring/fall rates since the power and water was out all day Saturday and Olympic National Park shut down the whole weekend. One of these days we’ll get to the Hoh….
