    CBS responds:

“As all news organizations do with extended interviews, last night’s Obama and McCain interviews were edited to fit the available time and to give viewers a fair expression of the candidates’ major differences,” CBS spokeswoman Jennifer Farley emailed. “The full transcript and video were and still are available at cbsnews.com.”

So. Editing for time now means changing the content of an interview for the broadcast version? Covering evidence that McCain apparently has no understanding of the single topic he is betting his campaign on?

Hmm Would local journalist care to comment on this practice? Is it widespread?

Wow. That’s not editing for length. They cut out McCain’s answer and played his response to a completely different question. I too would like to know if that type of “interview” is typically broadcast.

The good news is this manipulation on CBS’ part has gotten more publicity (in other media outlets) than the original story would have — given that CBS isn’t exactly a hot property. *Everybody* has been covering, and highlighting, McCain’s “misstatement”.

Meantime, Grampy is whining endlessly because the media is paying more attention to Obama than to him. “What happened to my role as most favorite pol?” Well, can you say obsolete?
