    Hi all,

Are you raising kids in West Seattle? Where? Do you like it? Do your kids like it? What’s good about it?

I’m looking for an area in West Seattle where people are raising kids and where they can play outside without fear of getting run over:)

    Thanks

We live in Fauntlee Hills and it is a quiet neighborhood but lots of hills and not a good place for kids to ride bikes, etc. Quiet though. My son goes to school in Arbor Heights and I see lots of kids out and about.

We live in North Admiral and have a 10 year old son. It’s a great neighborhood. Many children and quite safe streets. He can ride his bike around without us worrying.

We’re in a little area north of Admiral between the viewpoint and the ravine. It’s a little pocket with dead end streets, so the only non-destination traffic we get consists of people lost looking for Alki.

There are two houses for sale in the area – one on Grayson between Belvidere and 39th, and one on the corner of Grayson and Belvidere. Lots of kids in the area from one-year-olds to teens.

I wouldn’t let my kid ride up Admiral to school or store on his own, but in the neighborhood is very safe.

While I adore our neighborhood in Upper Fauntleroy, where Junior Member of the Team has lived his entire 12 1/2 years, it is not kid-friendly – not level enough for easy bike-riding, no close playgrounds (only one less than a mile is down the very steep hill to Lincoln Park), etc. If I was starting over now, I would check out the neighborhoods west of The Junction around Ercolini Park. Wonderful new park, business district within walking distance, it just LOOKS friendly in that area — TR

Except to those who fear brown people, Highpoint is exceptionally kid friendly. The extensive network of sidewalks and every traffic calming device known to man, make it annoying to get around by car but it is very walkable and bikable. The library is very close and there are 4 play structures within 3 blocks of each other as well as a large play field and gym at the highpoint community center. There are more community buildings under construction in the recently opened block sized park between Sylvan Way and SW Graham.

I fix bicycles for most of the kids in my end of the neighborhood and there are dozens of them. There are at least 5 pocket parks within the neighborhood where pickup games of soccer and football are in progress most summer evenings.

The playfields, library and community center of Delridge are also withing walking and biking distance as well as the nature programs, trails and parks in and near Camp Long and are also easily accessible without crossing any high traffic streets.

    Thanks for the replies,

The hills are an issue where we are now:)

Will look into all these areas and Ken, as i’m not afraid of anyone i’ll even go to Highpoint too!

My family and I live on 38th and Dakota, and we absolutely love it! We are surrounded by other families that have children, ranging from toddlers to high schoolers. Its is within walking distance of many schools and the playground at Holy Rosary is within a few blocks from our house. Did I mention the wonderful view of Seattle? I know of at least two houses for sale on my block. You should definitely check out this neighborhood!

Pigeon Point rocks — we moved here specifically because it seemed to be (and is!) a fabulous neighborhood in which to raise our kids. :)
