cruiserMemberHave you not noticed that garbage trucks are a LOT bigger than any of the vans used by these guys?? Have you? Quit bitchin man
December 21, 2008 at 2:15 am #651293
vincentMemberActually I used to drive truck and have a CDL. and no garbage trucks are no bigger than a UPS van.
As a taxpayer and a customer, I have interest in why I am not receiving a service that I pay for. when they power goes out, they get it back up, they don’t tell everyone to wait till the weather gets better.

vincentMemberAlso, this is purely a cost issue, Rabinco the company that services the city, just didn’t feel like buying chains. or paying for the insurance that we all already have that covers us in all weather.

ZenguyParticipantWhy does everything you post have an angry bent to it?

cruiserMemberVincent,
Can I have some of whatever you took between your last two posts please? Zen you want some too?

MrJTMemberI was happy that there was no need to haul a half full garbage can and recycle bin down the driveway. Lets go for bi-weekly pickup year round !
December 21, 2008 at 4:10 am #651299
JanSParticipantnice that we can just put the garbage outside, it freezes, doesn’t smell, and they’ll get to it eventually. If I was driving those trucks, I wouldn’t want to be out in it either. People come over garbage any day, as far as I’m concerned. You don’t think you’re getting enough service? Well, then, only pay half your bill – lol…I’m sure they’ll pay attention to you, eventually :)

JoBParticipantdon’t have to worry about the crab shells creating a stink:)

WesCAddleMemberI’m still waiting for my garbage to be delivered also!

miwsParticipantSure, the parcel delivery employees have to either hand carry, or hand truck some pretty bulky and heavy packages around, and I admire the hell out of them for doing so in these conditions.
BUT, the garbage truck crews have to wrestle, in many cases, heavy dumpsters that don’t roll worth a crap when they are empty, on clear, dry pavement. And, they often have to roll them several feet, if not yards to line them up in front of the truck to lift them.
So yeah, though it’s a drag to see the dumpster outside my building over flowing, and I hope that the winds don’t get strong enough to blow the stuff around, I can’t, in good conscience, expect these employees to risk injury.

pamMemberTHis will be our second week without pick up. I don’t blame them for not wanting to go out in this – I don’t even want to take it from the kichen outside to the can!

IrukandjiParticipantI’d hate to see the trucks and drivers trying to navigate our neighborhood. Amazing what they go through here with hills, tight corners, dead ends and alleys on an average pick-up day. The risks they’d have to take to 1) get to work, 2) get here in trucks, and 3) risk damage to self and the property of others just isn’t worth it to me. I hope they are able to enjoy these days playing with their kids and keeping warm.

AimParticipantWe took a walk down to Westwood Village today to get a few supplies for Xmas gift baking. On the way back there was a trash can with trash all around it and crows having a party. It was nasty, stinking trash even frozen. soclwrkrinmotn and I cleaned it up and put it back in the can. It looked like the people who lived there hadn’t left their house in awhile — cars buried, walkway covered with deep snow.
Folks, if you’re out and see that someone’s trash is tipped, please be a kind neighbor and pick it up. Consider it “paying it forward” as it may have been yours that we took care of today :)
December 22, 2008 at 12:50 am #651307
GenHillOneParticipantI’d like to see some of their trucks throw on a blade and join the plow brigade in times like this :)
It’s a pain, but I get the dumpster and alley access issue. I’m happy to know in advance they aren’t coming so I don’t lug everything out there only to have to bring it back again.
