ComputerGeekMemberWatching the game last night, my friend called his dad in Maui who was also watching the game. Suddenly his dad yells “Touchdown!” and we’re watching a quarterback with the ball in his hand. Some 15 seconds later, 49’ers score a touchdown. He called several other plays to prove that he wasn’t making this up. How is it Hawaii gets a faster feed of our game than Fox 13 in Seattle?

lazybeardParticipantI can tell you that OTA isn’t delayed while Comcast by a couple of seconds. The same could be true from different television providers (DirecTV, Comcast, Dish, etc).

wakefloodParticipantI’m not entirely sure of the reason but I’ve also seen it where the non-HD feed is a few seconds ahead of the HD feed of the same sports event.
Some of that could be explainable due to higher levels of compression/decompression requirements.
It also may be the case that Comcast does its own “7 second delay” to edit live programs in case of stuff that could violate FCC purity laws. No exposed nipples or F-bombs, doncha know?
Maybe the Hawaii carrier doesn’t mind that stuff…???

jwwsParticipantI’m not sure but it may have something to do with local media rebroadcasting from the national media, so that would explain Q13 lag time versus what someone in Hawaii was seeing from direct national feed. I know when I was watching Seahawks game a few months ago on q13 and husband was in another room watching on national feed there was a delay between the two….

seaopgalParticipantWe can watch Q13 FOX over the air on channels 13.1 and 22.2 … and there is a ~4 second delay between the two.

JanSParticipantif you are like me, and turn on the radio broadcast while watching the game, there’s a delay there, too…Steve Raible screams “touchdown”, and then you can look up and see it :D
