anonymeParticipantThere is no information posted about this on Metro’s website, but I’ve now heard from two drivers that Route #22 will see more changes at the end of September. Please note that I said “change”, not “improvement”. I’ve been told that the frequency (just once per hour) will not change, but that the route will continue on SW 106th to Marine View instead of turning on 35th Ave.
As usual, there has been no notification and no rider input related to these changes. As far as I can tell, there will be no upgrades to the Route #21, as was suggested last year when the drastic cuts were first made to Arbor Heights service. Nor was I aware that Marine View Drive was a high-priority service area, apparently more so than the 35th corridor.

GrazieParticipantMetro seems to be looking for an excuse to axe the 22 altogether, as in, “reduce the efficiency and watch the ridership fail…let simmer and wait for an opportune moment to announce the end of the Route, since the ridership levels are so low…”

anonymeParticipantGrazie, I was going to say exactly the same thing but I’m kind of at the limit of how much energy I want to waste on Metro. This is exactly what they did with the #21. Metro’s stated goal from the very start of last year’s changes was to eliminate service to Arbor Heights, so this is the latest step. It’s so obvious, given Metro’s sudden need to serve Marine View Drive – always the least used section of the Arbor Heights loop. Most people I know have given up and gone back to driving. Unfortunately, not everyone has that option.

gmabettyParticipantI can’t understand the short loop the 21 makes from Westwood Village, over to Roxbury, down 35th and back up to Westwood. I took the 21 from 35th, had to get off at Westwood and wait for another 21 to go to 35th and Roxbury. Be sure you get the right 21 to go downtown or you’ll end up back at Westwood! Looks like a waist to me

anonymeParticipantbetty, that was a recent addition due to too many buses being backed up at Westwood. Metro could have just had the 21 do a short loop to Arbor Heights instead of having buses drive around the block for no good purpose. But no, that would actually provide service, something Metro seems adamantly against.

GrazieParticipantThat 21 “loop” could be an entire RANT for this rider (one ex: drivers who forget to change their sign and then get snarky about it…), but for the moment the 21 runs well enough to keep me using Metro.
What really gets me about the 22 is the Blatant Waste of an empty, or near empty, coach trundling around once an hour, not even bothering to slow down for stops. Was on a C behind the 22 one day, trying to catch up and transfer – the Route 22 driver made no pretense of picking up potential passengers. The C driver thought the whole thing rather amusing.
Quarter of a Century without a vehicle, and now just one Metro shake-up away from getting back onto the road.

gmabettyParticipantWhat is odd–Metro doesn’t have a plan to get to 35th and Roxbury if you go from 35th and Morgan.
Also the 22 crosses 35th and goes up past the pool but there is no plan for that either. They tell you to get off the 21 and walk up to the pool.
I agree that they could’ve kept Arbor Heights and skip the Westwood Loop.
