Seriously?ParticipantThis is an excellent reminder from Seattle Parks about picking up after your dog(s) and why they need to stay leashed. There’s also a reminder of where, and why, dogs are not allowed, and a where they CAN go. Please be respectful in the comments and in public.

JeannieParticipantNice reminder! Sadly, I see too many dogs – mostly off-leash – on the beach in Lincoln Park. Their owners lack any respect for the rules that protect wildlife. Really, what am I supposed to do when I see these people? I realize I’m opening a can of worms here, and this problem has been around for years, but there’s still no solution.
I do adore dogs of all kinds, but I’m fed up with their entitled humans.April 22, 2022 at 3:35 pm #1032570
PLSParticipantThere were so many off-leash dogs on Alki the other day during low tide. We were trying to have a nice, peaceful walk but between the barking and the anxiety about being attacked/engaged by a running wet out of control dog our time was completely ruined. It’s to the point where we can no longer go down there for a walk as we should feel comfortable doing.
Shame on all you dog owners. SHAME. And I’m fed up with it. I’ve asked nicely, I’ve written letters, posted on boards, etc and it’s only getting worse. So, open letter to all dog owners on Alki Beach:
From now on I will have bear spray and a thick walking stick with me. Be forewarned. If any dog comes anywhere near me or my family it will get both in the face with no mercy. And to those who are aghast, I’m sorry for the dog but I have every right to protect myself and my family. The trauma and debilitating physical pain caused by the anxiety combined with the loss of the one true happy place we enjoyed is devastating.
The dog owner has no agency in the matter, having forsaken any rights by letting their dog loose on a beach, breaking two laws directly and creating an unsafe and hostile environment for us.
I wish you had a place to take your dog to run free, I really do. The dog deserves it. But our rights to a peaceful walk are within the law and supersede that. The laws are clear and exist for a reason.
Dogs must be on leash.
Dogs are not allowed on Alki Beach.Period.
End of story.
There is no but, no negotiation, no what about …. get off the damn beach.

DroppleParticipantGood reminder, but I wonder if people respond to that. In my experience the “off leash community” can be pretty bull headed about it, as though it’s some sort of personal infringement
