MookieMemberUpright Grand Piano, manufactured around 1904-05. This piano has a very heavy solid brass sound board, all the keys have their ivory, and great woodwork. We found this piano in Idaho and have had it for over 20 years. It does need some tuning and other maintenance and the finish could use a bit of redoing but the piano is in very good condition except for one wheel, which has collapsed and doesn’t roll so well. The piano is very heavy (most upright grands are.)
An acquaintance who is a concert pianist and plays beautifully, came and tried it out. He said the piano sounded great and that tuning would really bring out the sound.
To see photos, click HERE. The piano is located in Pigeon Point neighborhood.
I would really like to give this piano to someone who would enjoy the look and feel of a piece of craftsmanship and quality. The piano has to go and if no one is interested, I must break apart and take the pieces to the dump. I’d rather not do that. I have been told that a complete rebuild and tune is around $250 and I’ve had several estimates about the moving costs, from $150 to $500. Most were in the $300-350 range. I suspect one should expect somewhere around $400. I have figured taking it to the dump will cost me $100 so I’ll contribute that amount to who ever takes it. The piano and bench are at no cost to the new owner, just moving and tuning.

VanessaParticipantMookie, thank you for posting about your old upright grand piano. I wish I could trade it out for the old little spinet I’m stuck with.
I’m sure with some tuning and regulation work on all the mechanism works inside, it will sound glorious once again.
As a young adult, I started learning about piano tuning and technician work. (luckily, I didn’t choose that path as a career, cuz I would be hurting for work, as the digital world causes old pianos to end up in the dump.) but from your pictures, I can tell what good shape it is in.
Please keep me posted, as I cannot stand the thought of another grand piano ending up on the junk heap. I know many musicians, singers and teachers….we can find a home together and I might have a few dollars to help with whatever path this grand old set of strings ends up taking. andreaParticipantHey Mookie…is the piano still available? I agree with Vanessa that it looks to be in great shape for its age. My kids have been very interested in piano playing of late. I also happen to know the finest piano tuner around. If it is still available, please let me know. I will email you at your address above as well. Thanks, Andrea

MookieMember“The piano is 63.5″ wide, 55″ high and 27″ deep. I do not have any way to weigh it, but it is very heavy.”

VanessaParticipantHi Mookie, I’m not sure what bump means, but I asked your friend to send me the link (so I could post it on some other sites) to try and help him find the piano a home…BUT, IF ANDREA is still a serious taker, Andrea, please go for it. My options have all falling thru.

miwsParticipantVanessa, did you happen to contact Sealth/Denny Music Co-Ordinator Marcus Pimpleton? I was going to suggest so earlier in the thread, until I saw in your comment #3 that you know some Teachers, etc, and thought you might contact him.
Otherwise, I’ve never met Mr. Pimpleton myself, but just from what I’ve read here on WSB, am aware of his involvement in, and passion for, music.
Oh, and “bump” is just a term commonly used in bringing Internet Forum topics back to the top of the list, for more visibility.

andreaParticipantYes, I would like it Mookie! I contacted your friend earlier in the week and have just not gotten around to getting back to them. We are going to be out of town until Monday however…I have emailed him back and will see about setting up a time to get over to see the piano next week. I also need to find a piano moving company. Anyone know of one?
