erishaymMemberOn Friday night, 3FEB12, My boyfriend and I had take out from a prominent teriyaki restaurant in the Highland Park / White Center neighborhood. We took it home and ate it immediately.
Early the next morning, shortly after 4am for both of us, we became VIOLENTLY, Violently ill. I mean we lost control of basic functions and the ability to stop certain functions. It was a nightmare. I passed out once in my bathroom, he passed out 3 different times, thankfully neither of us was seriously injured when falling. This storm waged on fighting to get out of us for the next 10 hours. Finally, the body’s demand to evacuate all bodily fluids diminished and we were left feeling exhausted with severely sore muscles and stomach cramps. This condition continued for the next day and a half. I actually skipped work on Monday as I was still so tired and drained of energy I slept all day.
This was the worst experience of my life. I felt I needed to inform the proper authorities that we had this experience, so if there is a problem, it can be handled and no one else will have to go through this again. I have never had a food related illness before and because of its severity, I believe this is what we have been through.
Please feel free to contact me if you need any more information.
I would be interested to know if anyone else suffered the fate we did Friday night, and if I have contacted the proper authorities so this is handled correctly.
Thank you

sacatoshParticipantMaybe I’m an idiot, but I can’t think of a “prominent Teriyaki restaurant” in the Highland Park/White Center area. Could you narrow it down a little?
Did you notify the restaurant?
How about the Health Dept?
If you’re asking us if you’ve notified the “proper authorities,” nobody can tell you one way or the other without knowing whom you notified.

SueParticipantHow awful; sorry you had to experience that, whatever the cause.
Here’s a link to info on reporting food poisoning/illnesses: http://directory.kingcounty.gov/ServiceDetail.asp?ServiceID=6776

erishaymMemberMy apologies. I guess I worded my post wrong. I did call the health department. And chose to go to this blog as I am new to the area (8 months)and thought maybe there were others as well. Sacatosh: As far as me dubbing them “a prominent teriyaki place” a quick search of Google maps brings up 10 from Alki to Burien. So, run with that. I could narrow it down to the shopping center it is in but then I may as well name them. I would like them to have an opportunity to correct any food handling issues before Joe Public goes berserk. I was simply reaching out. But as I stated, the health department is on it, so thank you.

luckymom30ParticipantOK I am not seeing that you have said you contacted the restaurant with the tainted food, if not why not? If you have contacte the restaurant and made a verbal complaint why can’t you tell everyone on this blog the name of the restaurant? I would feel better knowing which restaurant is having issues.

sacatoshParticipantThanks for clarifying – you’re very kind to let the health dept handle it without mentioning the exact place.
I’m sorry you were so sick. I’ve had food poisoning; it’s absolutely miserable. My partner and I had norovirus at the same time, AND he had eColi on top of it. We were so incredibly sick, and only had one bathroom… I’ll leave it at that. It sucked.
Sorry that was your “welcome” to our fabulous neighborhood, and I hope your next adventure in dining is much, much better!

JiggersMemberI’ve had food poisoning from well known West Seattle restaurant about five years ago. I feel your pain. I’ve also had free meals under the downtown bridge and never got sick eating beside the pigeons.. Go figure…:(

inactiveMemberthere are no teriyaki places in Highland Park or North Highline/White Center; I am 95% sure. Lots of Pho places in WC, if you hadn’t noticed. There are many neighborhoods in West Seattle and the subtle boundaries between them are confusing even to folks who have been around for awhile. Fyi, Highland Park ends on 16th and Westwood is the hood to the west. The south boundary is Roxbury, the east is West Marginal and the north is Riverview Park north of Holden .
Food poisoning is one of the worse experiences I recall. Reaallllly bad.
Anyway, if you are referring to a particular place where i have been a regular customer at for years (tofu please), i am pretty sure it was a fluke occurence, though one which needs to be
addressed, obviously. Glad you reported it.

MagpieParticipantIt also might not have anything to do with food poisoning and could be a norovirus. I got one at a hotel once and was really sick. Since you got sick at the same time, it could be this or food poisoning (which norovirus is often mistaken for.)
The bad part is that you could be contagious for up to 3 days after symptoms are gone. Only a doctor could tell you what you have.

maudeParticipantI ate from a restaurant once and almost immediately became sick. I ended up making an appointment with my doctor and, considering all my medical education (none), I decided it was food poisoning from the restaurant. She told me symptoms can show hours or days after eating bad food and I associated the sickness with the restaurant because that’s what I was throwing up. Maybe it wasn’t the teriyaki place?
