DPMemberIsn’t a flash mob supposed to a little more . . . er . . . spontaneous?
Also, Fourth of July? Alki? How will you tell the difference between the “flash” mob and the regular mob?
Answer to Your Question:
I think the way you do this is to mass text everyone in your address book a message along these lines:
Flash Mob Alert: Meet at Alki Beach by the Statue of Liberty today at noon. Disperse at 12:10. (Pass this on to everyone in your address book.)
I don’t have a cell phone, so I’m always three weeks late for the mob. But that’s how I’ve heard it works.
Good luck, hh. I’ll think of you the next time there’s fireworks. ;-)

JoBParticipantI like the idea.
dancing people always make me smile…
of course, the dancers are better prepared if you meet first to practice…
that sounds to me like a great excuse for a party

WSBKeymasterFlash mobs don’t ever seem to be spontaneous any more. The one we covered on Alki a month or two back was meticulously planned for weeks, including rehearsals and YouTube videos to coach the dance moves. Par for the course. Kind of a peeve of mine; flash mob was indeed SUPPOSED to mean something spontaneous, but no one has coined a new term for these preplanned performances that are surprises only to the spectators.
Anyway, to the OP, the first thing you do seems to be create a Facebook event for it and scatter it to as many people as you know. If you decide to organize it, let us know and we’d be happy to share the news too.

happy hourParticipantFlash mob does take practice. Meeting @ tennis courts school field behind dukes area, or such. Don’t need to be professional dancer. But good to have lead choreographer. We can spread the news.even in local paper. What an opportunity to be active rather than passive!!!! Pessimists need not reply. Flash mobs are a glorious thing. Smiles, fun, exuberance,… :). This is a good start. Spread the word. We have plenty of spread the word and practice time. I am not a dancer. It would be nice to engage in life.

happy hourParticipantI think I have dance coach / choreographer- professional teacher- he loves fusion ! W can broadcast through many email (retail- facebook, etc) lists. Meet up, events and adventures, mountaineers, businesses, endless options. :)
Need to locate music person-or live bands?,etc. that should be easy.

happy hourParticipantSpontaneity is an illusion!!!!!!!!!
I know of some dance groups to contact too. And its for regular people – like me! Choice of a really fun song will be awesome.
Thanks for Ur positive responses. 3 weeks late- that works :)

wrenMemberHi! being part of a flash mob would be awesome. I’m new to West Seattle, but I’d love to be a part of it. I think the key is that it looks “spontaneous” obviously they are well choreographed, so they need practice. I think often onlookers may join once it is going. Please keep me posted.

WSBKeymasterI would imagine the pop anthem of this 4th of July might be Katy Perry’s “Firework.”

happy hourParticipantNo fireworks on the sound. Should we still do it for Alki?? Or Labor day weekend?

wrenMemberthis is exciting – I am watching the blog for details. as a newcomer Alki does seem to be the place to do it, but I do wonder as I think someone else did if it might be better to NOT do it on a holiday weekend.

happy hourParticipantWren, just wondering why-not on a holiday weekend? I am open….. Its about community!!!!
I’m also thinking of keeping the dance simple with shimmy and shakes-and twirling-arm waves- simple moves so ‘many’ can join in and feel apart of it. I will be meeting with ‘fusion’ dancer-soon.

happy hourParticipantThere doesn’t seem to be interest. And I had dancing horses lined up too. It would take an Alki- village. Will not go through with it.
