Anon, is there a reference for SPD dismissing the ordnance quantity that way?

I called the cops, and the dispatcher pretty much scoffed at me. She implied that unless the firecrackers were aimed at people or property, forget about doing anything.

Maybe I’m a bit of a nut, but I also waved down a police car near Lincoln Park just to ask him why there was no enforcement. He was absolutely courteous, explaining the police had to balance priorities, and “domestic calls” had to take priority. So, indeed, I agree that a drunken jerk threatening his or her spouse is a higher priority, but it’s still frustrating when people show their “patriotism” by making earsplitting noises and potentially starting fires.

I don’t think our veterans suffering from PTSD consider these explosions particularly patriotic.

did anyone notice the notation of a live mortar round found at one of our local parks during clean-up?

    Yup.

Did you notice the number of fires that were deliberately caused by individuals throwing lit fireworks from cars into tinder-dry brush?

Our celebration of ‘freedom’ is beginning to seem less like Independence Day and more like ISIS.

As far as saying our Independence day is like the ISIS your way off anonyme and that alone is a slap in the face to everyone who celebrates the birth of this country either way… yes we have some who have stupid written on their foreheads always have and there always will be… to compare them to the way people celebrate our Independence day to a religious terrorist group you are wrong so wrong…..

I’m sorry you took my comment so literally. However, I don’t think it’s any more far-fetched than insisting that freedom must be celebrated with explosives, and by terrorizing neighbors, pets, and wildlife – as well as poisoning our environment.

Both are fanatics, and I make no apology for that comparison. Furthermore, I don’t believe for a single second that the people who do this have the slightest clue what Independence Day is really about.

Interesting, 2 people, always getting in the middle of every post on the forum.

Pretty sure we know who those rabble rousers are, so no need to call them out.

It would be interesting to be able to use these forums and allow alternate views and opinions and information sharing without the rash of judgement and over personalization of every issue.

My dog isn’t bothered by loud noises. 4th of July doesn’t phase him one bit. Maybe it’s a breed thing?

Embrace the *simulated* sound of warfare. If it’s good enough for our military, it’s good enough for the citizenry.

    God Bless America!

I posted a link to a veteran’s request a few days before the 4th on my FB page. He had happily just received a placard for his yard noting that he was a vet with PTSD and asking for his neighbors to inform him if they were planning to do explosives so he could make preparations.

He was asking others to post so that neighbors of other vets who might have been too embarrassed to get a a placard, would take a minute to let them know what to expect.

Which is to say, have a little fricking empathy for your fellow man and their families and you can expect the same in return.

Dear Save_Us_WSB….are you suggesting that certain people should be censored/not permitted on these forums because you don’t like that they post here?? Just curious. Why does it bother you who posts and who doesn’t? Everyone has opinions…even you…and all are welcome :)

As a former military person, I don’t need to “embrace the ‘simulated’ sound of warfare. Time to eliminate warfare, in my book. :)

LOL – nice attempt to read through the lines JanS, as I stated before, there is a trend with 2 people dominating every forum post, rabble rousing and over-personalizing everyones attempts to share information and opinions.

Never once did i suggest any sort of censorship, self control / selflessness for the good of everyone else, hell yes, but certainly not censorship.

In a world of free speech, we just have to monitor ourselves. which is why I ended my post with “too bad”

First off, a sincere thank you for your service to our country.

Second, you’ll have to eliminate the human race in order to stop war and warfare. Fighting and killing is what humans do best!

Off to Lincoln Park for a cool dip with the dog :D

Wakeflood – it appears to be that stumbledore is representing the irony in the extreme position of a few others by taking the extreme opposite stance.

I choose to to laugh, because the irony is thick.

    what if it isn’t irony?

what if we really have allowed those too self involved to see the impact of their behavior on the rest of society to take over?

if we are not responsible for that, who is?

because you can get away with it is not a good enough reason to break laws

that isn’t the kind of freedom most service people i know fought for.

Re-read the posts, if you don’t see the irony it is probably because you are the punch line. Heck, your response seems to be exactly what was being fished for…

What did they fight for if not our freedom to celebrate our great country and independence?

interesting that the commonly accepted way to show patriotism on the 4th is to buy cheap fireworks made in communist China that are often sold on reservation land of Native Americans whose ancestors were massacred in the name of progress, i.e. money, requiring our first responders, many of whom served in the military, to give up their time off and risk their lives and health protecting the property of innocent victims of people who just want to blow stuff up.

    speaking of irony …

Almost sounds like people don’t want to celebrate independence. No surprise here in socialist West Seattle, where patriotism is frowned upon and politically incorrect.

But back to the topic – don’t get a wimpy dog that startles around loud noises then maybe people won’t feel so victimized by people celebrating the greatest country in the history of mankind.
