skeeterParticipantOkay time to come clean. Who else has advance tickets to see this amazing movie?
February 11, 2015 at 5:48 pm #821843
2 Much WhineParticipantIt’s about Seattle weather, right? I don’t need to watch a movie about that – I live it 360 days a year.
February 11, 2015 at 6:18 pm #821844
sbreParticipantI thought is was an AARP thing about various hair colors of their members!
February 11, 2015 at 6:31 pm #821845
JanSParticipantoh, sbre…I resemble that…I think I have all shades right now…
February 11, 2015 at 7:02 pm #821846
JoBParticipantso yesterday i watched what was basically a commercial for this film done by a couple of the “Real” housewives that stated that he started out manipulating her but he fell for her and in the end she manipulated him.
this is romantic?
February 11, 2015 at 7:05 pm #821847
JoBParticipanti seem to remember a similar bondage/control/manipulation book/film elevated to a high form of romance in the late 70’s maybe?
i can’t remember what it was called… but i remember it as the romantic Ayn Rand
February 11, 2015 at 8:07 pm #821848
PangolinPieParticipantCould you be thinking of Secretary, JoB?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0274812/
That was a pretty good film, IMO.
Personally, I have no interest in seeing 50 Shades…the book looks pretty awful, like the soft-core stuff people who don’t know how to find real porn might read. ;)
February 11, 2015 at 8:49 pm #821849
JoBParticipantPangolini Pie
that one was a decent movie..
but it’s not what i am thinking of..
i can’t remember how old i was when it came out but i thought it was 70s…maybe it was 60s…
got some difficult news today .. my baby brothers are showing their age .. and the brain is definitely sluggish :(
February 11, 2015 at 10:08 pm #821850
PangolinPieParticipantHey JoB, I hope the difficult news doesn’t make your day/life TOO rough. Hang in there. I suffer from Sluggish Brain too quite often. :)
February 11, 2015 at 10:36 pm #821851
wsn00bParticipantWe have advance purchase tickets. For Valentine’s day. FML.
February 11, 2015 at 11:07 pm #821852
waynsterParticipantwait you mean they use leather and fur and handcuffs….I have no knowledge of those sort of things nope I don’t nope hehehehe…..
Job was the movie called carnal knowledge by chance I recall a movie like this alas I too have a slight loss of growing young…..lol
February 11, 2015 at 11:12 pm #821853
anonymeParticipantNot really interested in Fifty Shades, but the actor Jamie Dornan plays a serial killer in an excellent series called “The Fall”. A different approach, and really well done.
February 11, 2015 at 11:22 pm #821854
LindseyParticipant@JoB It’s terrible, a practical handbook for emotional manipulation and domestic abuse.
50 Shades of Grey started out as a fan fiction (fan-written fiction about existing characters) of Twilight. So… it’s a pretty blatant plagiarism of an already poorly written book featuring a very unhealthy relationship. I hope it will be Showgirls-level awful!
Here’s an article on the problematic relationship in the book:
But in the end, if you still want to see Jamie Dornan play an intensely good-looking psychopath, check out the BBC show The Fall on Netflix. :) He plays a serial killer who stalks and strangles dark-haired women, not really that far off from Christian Grey.

LindseyParticipant@anonyme Well hello fellow Fall fan! Can’t wait for season three. Gillian Anderson is also amazing in it. #threadjack
February 11, 2015 at 11:46 pm #821856
PangolinPieParticipantVery interesting article there in the Atlantic, Lindsey. It sounds worse than I had thought.
February 12, 2015 at 1:13 am #821857
wakefloodParticipantSpeaking of both Gillian Anderson and inappropriate relationships…
…did anyone here watch Hannibal? ;-)
Too bad it didn’t get picked up for another season but then again, they killed off most of the cast so…
February 12, 2015 at 4:10 am #821858
JoBParticipantwaynster.. no it wasn’t that one either..
it was very much the type of thing that i have seen on the trailers for this one :(
and yes… Lindsey.. i agree with you.. it’s awful
the premise is both sophomoric and demeaning
thus appealing to those whose love of Ayn Rand has stifled their intellect
February 12, 2015 at 4:12 am #821859
JoBParticipantPangolini Pie..
the silver lining is that the recent health scares have triggered a sibling get together in October.
if the sun shines and the creek don’t rise
February 12, 2015 at 6:11 am #821860
JanSParticipantJoB…you mean…Paul Ryan has tickets for this weekend? :->
February 12, 2015 at 2:54 pm #821861
JoBParticipant;-)
February 12, 2015 at 3:44 pm #821862
bsmommaParticipantI personally thought the books were decent. Couldn’t put them down. I was supposed to see it tonight in a fancy Redmond theater sipping wine with my girly friends. But sadly, I have no one to watch the kiddo. So, I will be watching TMNT…..again.:)
I don’t get the Domestic Abuse accusations everyone keeps throwing around. It’s straight up Kinky Sex. S&M. Dominatrix type of stuff. He spanks her…in a sexual manner. Not in an abusive angry way. Trust me, none of that is domestic abuse.
February 12, 2015 at 4:58 pm #821863
HelperMonkeyParticipantwakeflood – not sure where you’re getting your info but Hannibal was renewed for season 3, set to air this summer. #threadjack #again #fannibal
February 12, 2015 at 5:08 pm #821864
wakefloodParticipantOh, I stand corrected. I thought I’d read it somewhere that it wasn’t picked up. Thanks!
February 12, 2015 at 6:04 pm #821865
HelperMonkeyParticipantno prob. love that show too. TBH every time I watch it I am amazed they allow it on network tv, so I have been anticipating they were going to cancel it and have been keeping a close eye on it. :)
February 12, 2015 at 7:20 pm #821866
pattileaParticipantbsmomma, the books were fun, and not Domestic abuse. I am going to go see it!
