    DOG CRAP RANT!!!!!!!

Today was the last straw. I registered with the Blog here just to post this. I’m absolutely SICK of people not picking up their dogs crap. I’m tired of stepping in it, I’m tired of cleaning it up, and I’m tired of being angry about it. I live fairly close to Hiawatha park here in West Seattle, and at least once a week my wife, my kid or I step in someones dog crap.., not at the park… but at our house!!!!

So now, thanks to modern tech I will be setting up a camera to cover the prime spots where this seems to happen. I will not talk to you about it, or chase you down the street. I will simply post your picture (on facebook, the blog, etc.), next to a picture of your dogs crap with a big ‘=’ sign. How anyone could feel so entitled as to not pick up their dogs feces is beyond me. Cleaning up your dogs crap off my kitchen floor shouldn’t have to happen.

I actually asked a cop about it today, and his suggestion was to go to the pet store and look for some chemcials to spray down that might keep animals away (done). He also suggested to just sweep it in the street (done). Our streets covered with your dogs crap, so glad we can all get along and take care of our personal responsiblities.

Come on people! If you can’t handle the basics of taking your pet for a walk, then be prepared to have your picture posted for the world to see.

Good for you! There’s nothing I hate more than dogs relieving themselves on my lawn, and the owners that let them. I have two children who play out on the lawn, and I’m constantly finding little surprises from the neighborhood dogs. So not cool!

Your anger is justified. I’ve noticed that people with small dogs often seem to think that they needn’t bother picking it up. Someone in Arbor Heights has left nearly identical little piles on almost every corner – which is difficult to see until you step in it as you bend to pick up your own dog’s crap.

Hiawatha – you ROCK!!! I can’t tell you how many times i have stepped in something, in the dark, in my parking strip and tracked in the house only to have to spend the next twenty minutes cleaning it up – chaps my hide BIG TIME. I live on a corner with no driveway so pretty much always have to walk across the parking strip – notice i said parking strip and not POOPING strip!! I think you should set up a facebook page specifically for this purpose!! SHame on!!

Completely agree about dog owners picking up after and we do so during our walks. They are to be on a leash…..

But my frustration is with cats who just dump and run. I always believed the adage about cats: clean, bury their waste….Everyone (including me) until years ago I experienced the truth….. Cats do not always bury/cover it and they leave it it in the middle, uncovered in yards. It is disgusting! I love cats, but wish there was more control by owners , etc…

Please do not hate me, or tell me cats need to roam…. just saying from experience I do not appreciate stepping in a neighbor’s cat’s poo in my yard (way away from sidewalk)!!

Again love cats, but would never let mine roam and leave a mess for my neighbor …sort of the old version of why dogs couldn’t be controlled, leashed, licensed, etc… Just let them roam…

Please remember I love cats before the “hate” messages begin. Who wants to step in poo in your yard (not parking strip) and believe me I have seen the cats do it so I am not confusing it with something else….

Many agree with you hiawatha, if that helps any.

    .

Dog / cat owners, please take note (again)!

Thanks to john moore and people like him.

Thank you Hiawatha for taking action! I need to follow in your footsteps and instead of complain to my husband about it take steps to solve the problem. There’s a man in our neighborhood that takes his small dog for a walk every evening, and sure enough … 4 out of the 7 days I’ll find his dog’s poop. We’ve had one to many occasions where one of my children will step in dog poop and the nightmare begins. Hiawatha … I don’t have a Facebook account so maybe you can start posting pictures of the culprits here directly on the blog. I wonder if that’s acceptable. Technically, people who don’t pick up their dog’s poop who breaking the law.

I am in agreement with Hiawatha! ALSO, I would like to rant about the dog walkers in the SW Charlestown St area. Thanks for picking up your dog poop. HOWEVER it is NOT OK for you to walk onto my property and put your dog poop bag into my empty garbage can on a Tuesday. My garbage pick up is not until next Monday, so now I have to smell your dog’s crap for the next week AND I DON’T EVEN HAVE A DOG. So please take your bagged up dog poop home with you and stink up your own garbage can. Thank you. Oh – and I will also be posting photos if I catch the culprits!

Whew…good thing WSB didn’t exist in the 1800’s…all those horse crap complaints & black and whites would have killed the server…

    I jest..

Police your crap people! Its warm and smells and the gag reflex kicks in from time to time…but if you take the dog out…you gotta do the dooty!

Or strap the baggie to your dogs area (where the sun doesn’t shine) and simply wait…tie handles in knot…no fuss…no muss…

    #772066

Yeah, I liked DBP’s photos (other threads) can’t wait for Hiawatha’s and anyone else’s. Bring it. It seems to be the only way to get people to be responsible.

    .

Also, I liked what phoenix and mytwocents had to say.

Sorry to disappoint shaming fans, but a reminder, please do NOT post any image with a recognizable face. Shaming, vigilantism, etc., are not what WSB is about. If you want to start your own site on tumblr, wordpress.com, whatever, you have the freedom to publish whatever you want there, and you can certainly post a link here if you so choose, but as site owners here, we do draw a few lines. Thanks – TR

Isn’t it just the truth? It would be up to the alleged perpetrator to be or not be ashamed? Isn’t it just a true event that has taken place in West Seattle?

john, I’ll try to elaborate WSB’s position on this thing. And I as I do this, please understand that I’m speaking only for myself; I do not represent the official Blog position. Also note that, if anyone could be said to be “pushing the limit” of what’s appropriate on here, it’s me. So I shall try to proceed with . . . Ahem! . . . humility.

    **************************************************************************************

    ¡Bueno!

There are at least three reasons why WSB has to be conservative when it comes to hosting photographs of private individuals. One has to do with the law, one with ethics, and one with business.

The legal reason is that, under the law, you cannot defame a private person. Yes, technically, if the individual is doing an illegal act in public, it is legal to post a photograph of that. However, it’s still tricky, because whether an act is illegal cannot be determined in the court of the public opinion; that can be determined only in a court of law. So legally speaking, a guy leaving dog poop on your lawn is considered to have done nothing wrong – absent a cop giving him a ticket and/or a judge levying a fine. In the meantime, if you post a recognizable photo of the guy on the Internet, and a bunch of people he knows see that – including maybe the guy’s neighbors, coworkers, etc. – then you have defamed him. The guy could then sue both you and the Blog. And in fact this happens all the time.

The ethical reason not to post incriminating pix follows closely from the legal one. Let’s suppose you snap a photo of a lady letting her poodle desecrate your lawn. Well, it turns out that the lady forgot her poop baggies that day, but as soon as she realizes it, she goes back and gets them. Then, while you’re in on your computer, she returns to pick up the poop. Is it right to post her picture and embarrass her along with the real scofflaws? Surely not. Often, there’s no way of knowing who’s really in the wrong, and so the right thing to do is err on the side of discretion, don’t you think?

Finally, there’s a business reason not to do “shaming,” which is that if WSB allows too much of that then users and advertisers will flee from the site.

Blog owners Tracy and Patrick are walking a fine line with the forum. On the one hand, it’s a good way to get people more involved, but there’s always the danger of having it turn people off, too.

    ***************************************************************************************

So that’s it in a nutshell, and Tracy may have more to add.

If you want help blurring the face on a photograph, I may be able to provide that. However, the safest policy is to criticize the behavior rather than the person. And remember that the real “targets” of the law are not necessarily those whom we catch “in the act” of breaking it.

Will wait for rebuttles from Conservatives blaming Obama Administration for dog crap and the probable Liberals that refuse to pick it up…standing by…

I suppose we can all be glad dogs lack opposable thumbs…like monkeys…so they can’t fling it!

Well said DBP, I must admit I’ve been the person who forgot a bag and actually went back to pick it up. I will also say that I would be the person who would be filing suit against an eccentric photographer posting unauthorized photos of me on the Internet, my advice is tread lightly because in this day and age people are quick to sue.

    #772073

Seems like a photo taken in public is fair game so what would be the basis for a lawsuit?
