GreystreetParticipantMy partner and I got takeout from there last evening and it’s a treat for us because it’s a little more pricey and out of our way. We always rave to others about the food quality and this time was not worth anything but frustration. We got the usual crispy garlic chicken and it was burned and didn’t seem fresh, our fresh spring rolls were nothing but lettuc and rice noodles that were falling apart and the beef pad Thai was tasteless at best. Has anyone else had a similar experience there recently? We will stick to our new favorite The Thaitian on California across from the nursery, it’s unfortunate because Buddha used to be where we took visitors etc.

JanSParticipantI know it’s a hassle, but…the official rule of the forum is that before you post a “rant”, you need to bring the problem up with management of the place. And, really, if we don’t point out disappointments like that, they’ll just think everything is OK.
I, too, like Thaitan…and they deliver. Another where the food is decent (and they deliver, depending on where you are) is ThaiLanding on Alki…

justadumbguyParticipantGreystreet,
As Jan said I would absolutely let them know you were disappointed, but ‘I had one bad experience so crossing them off the list …’ feels a little extreme to me.
Any kitchen I’ve ever worked in (and it is more than a few) has had an off (and I mean really off) night …
That said, get a couple bad experiences in a row or notice a general decline then I’m 100% in line with you.
As for my recent experiences they have continued to be yummy. We had a bunch of family in town two weekends ago and placed a significantly large order and everyone was happy.
slightly off topic but
Jan S and Greystreet,
Since both of you mention them, would either of you be willing to share dish recommendations from the Thaitan?
March 1, 2014 at 7:30 am #805049
HMC RichParticipantJanS is right. You need to contact them and if you didn’t you shouldn’t post a rant on the forum.

hightideParticipantI’ve been a raving Buddha Ruksa customer for years but am disappointed that I won’t eat there again until they respond to safety concerns. I’ve e-mailed them twice w/ photos (below) after finding a piece of plastic the size of a quarter in a fresh roll. I understand that stuff happens in kitchens; I don’t understand when a reputable restaurant doesn’t respond. Any suggestions to return me to the family of happy Buddha Ruksa customers?
e-mails to Buddha Ruksa…
Hi. We just found this broken piece of hard plastic while eating a fresh roll picked up this evening at 7:38 pm. Order was for xxxx at xxx-xxxx. I believe you need to be aware of this to protect other customers. Please call or text with questions.
Hi –
Can you confirm that you’ve received this e-mail? I’m concerned that you haven’t responded. I do believe that such a situation should be resolved by refunding the price of the order.
Thank you.
I’m disappointed that they haven’t responded.

westcoastdebParticipantDishes at Thaitan? I love their prik king, spicy of course. Had the chicken fried rice before, too. Twas yummy.

GreystreetParticipantI’m sorry but that wasn’t a rant, it simply a post sharing an experience. I know the rules and if I was going to rant it wouldn’t have been so polite, geez guys lighten up

GreystreetParticipantJustadumbguy, the crispy garlic chicken at Thaitan is delightful, and I can’t get enough of their tom kha soup, delicious alternative esp if you live further south. (Hope this isn’t also misconstrued as a “rave”)

Spring ChickenMemberNope, your post was a rant. It’s only fair (and WSB policy) please contact the business first before writing anonymous complaints on the internet.

JoBParticipantMarch 1, 2014 at 9:06 pm #805056
Mr. XParticipantWe get Thaitan quite often and can vouch for swimming rama, panang curry, pineapple curry, pad thai, spring rolls. All very good, love Thaitan!

tanyar23ParticipantI love the “Thai U Up” food truck!
March 2, 2014 at 4:34 pm #805058
JoBParticipantwhere is it parked now?
March 2, 2014 at 5:13 pm #805059
tanyar23ParticipantThey park at the 76 on Roxbury and they also deliver. They are our go to Thai place now.
March 2, 2014 at 11:10 pm #805060
JoBParticipantthanks.. i didn’t see them last time i was looking for them

ws4everMemberGreystreet: I had the same disappointing experience, with tasteless expensive food. When I went back to talk to the manager, they told me they would not refund or give any credit towards them providing better food. Yep. I won’t be taking any food there, takeout or other. Very disappointing, because I’ve heard raves from others.
March 3, 2014 at 5:38 pm #805063
HomerParticipantAgreed: Got takeout from them and it was very disappointing. Tried it again and still the same. Dining in is a bit better but honestly, I’ve dropped them and go to Pailin. Not stellar food but consistently good and a very nice staff.
March 3, 2014 at 6:08 pm #805064
PLSParticipantI think a negative restaurant review is not a rant and shouldn’t be held to the same standard. There is a difference between that and some other service or product issue, IMHO. I agree that if this is a first issue it’s very important to contact BR and say you had a problem and give them a 2nd chance. The OP could perhaps have been posted as a question, instead of a statement – “has anyone else experienced problems?” sort of thing to make it less negative.
Other posters are right – a kitchen is a complex organism and can easily have an off night or two. We also used to love Buddha Ruska but had in the last year several times in a row over the span of months where our food simply was not good, certainly not worth the money. I expressed same to the restaurant but saw no improvements, either in take out or dine in food.
So we now go to Pailin Thai or get delivery from Thaitan instead and are much happier with both those.

manhattan93MemberWe always love Bang Bar at the Junction. They have a lot of variety of Thai Food and they deliver for any order more than $40 ( 3/5 radius miles, I am not sure ).
I might be weird but seeing Buddha Ruksa served the fortune cookies in the small weave tray together with the check ( and my be somebody else’s money from the previous use ) just turn me off.
March 4, 2014 at 2:05 am #805066
smokeycretin9ParticipantAnother vote for the Thai-U-Up truck. They’re amazing fresh pad thai and crispy garlic chicken blows me away every time. I will put their “Crack chicken” up against the big guys any day of the week.
Maybe it seems Budda Ruska is becoming a victim of it’s own popularity. Trying to push too much food out the door has probably reached the limits of the kitchen and staff. It is sad to hear. I hope they can reel it in a bit and get back to the quality food that made them famous.
March 4, 2014 at 6:19 pm #805067
GreystreetParticipantThe Thai – U – up truck is right down the street from our house, soooo good!
