my primary beloved memory of Dick Clark is American Bandstand; our generation literally learned how to dance watching his show; and because I grew up in So Cal, also got to see several of my friends dancing on his show

and like some of the tributes have said, it was first opportunity for many of us to see what our favorite singers/groups/bands looked like (this was pre MTV; most of our access to new music was AM radio, and if we liked a song, we could buy what is now called vinyl; back then they were just records)

love you always Dick Clark
