I’m disgusted with the speeding a holes I witnessed on 35th today. WTF people? What’s the hurry? DAMN YOU!

I don’t notice major speeding (meaning much over 5mph) but I do notice lots of running of red lights. Just today two cars in front of me ran through the red light camera on Thistle. I sure hope they get a ticket in the mail! I mean, it wasn’t a running of the yellow, it was a downright running of a red light. At my intersection at 35th & Henderson I always wait because people run through the lights there all the time too.

And I thought things were getting better on 35th. But I agree, today people seemed more aggressive. Do you think it is all the hype over Mother’s Day and the expectations that have been built into that day?

I don’t know what it was about today either! On our way home this afternoon, a SUV towing a boat sped past us as we were heading south on 35th near Mt. St. Vincent’s.

Huh. I always thought “Sunday drivers” were supposed to be super slow, not super fast…maybe they read the memo wrong.

Speaking of 35th and red light cameras, did the cameras at 35th & Avalon get removed? I’ve observed a number of people run the red light there in recent weeks, and noticed the cameras were no longer present (there did used to be red light cameras at that intersection, right?).

Will check on that one tomorrow.

I almost got killed on 35th last week, wasn’t Sunday but was 35th, around Cloverdale someone who wanted to turn left tried to ignore the fact I was in the inside southbound lane while he/she was in the outside southbound lane and attempted to drive right through me to make the turn. Awesome.

Remember there’s a rally this week for anyone interested who can make it, 4 pm Wednesday, 35th/Juneau, I believe, is the meeting place; we ran a story last week.

It’s like that every day. I am now taking alternative routes instead of driving on 35th…even tho takes me longer to get where I’m going. The last time I drove on 35th I saw 3 near miss car accidents and an older man on a bike almost run over.

SLOW DOWN or people will die!

Thansen – I guess if “Slow down, people HAVE died” doesn’t work, eh?

I’ve been living somewhere else most of this summer and I come back to WS on occasion and I see that there are still plenty of speeding jackasses on 35th. Jeeze, I nearly got rear-ended by some jerk in an older teal Honda today.

Those rallys and signs on 35th are probably the only way anyone’s going to get attention to the speeders. Not everyone [gasp!] reads the Blog.

Not to sound like a broken record, but put a streetcar down the center of 35th. That’s my answer. Get rid of the freeway feel.

I know, i know..where’s the money going to come from? I get it. Seattle ‘aint that progressive.

It’s gotten worse lately, for sure. For awhile the new radar screen at 100th seemed to help. Now that a lot of regular travelers have figured out that there’s no camera attached, they blow by at such high speed that it doesn’t even register on the screen. I used to object to cameras as a civil liberties issue, but no more – at least not where traffic is concerned. It makes more sense to have cameras monitor traffic than it does to take cops off of other calls to issue tickets. More cost effective, too. Enforcement is the only solution.

I’m with Anonyme…civil libertarian…yada…yada…yada. Total disdain for “Big Brother.” But three years of living and driving in Seattle have changed my mind, at least regarding traffic laws. Bring on the cameras, and while we’re at it, jack up the fines for moving violations. It’s too cheap to drive like an idiot here.

I don’t have near as much a problem with speeders as the idiots that drive really slow in the left lane.

It’s probably why the people drive fast on 35th, they’ve been trying to get by someone driving slow in the fast lane on the WS bridge, and when they get by them they speed up….
