NTParticipantDoes anyone have a favorite spot for a drink with friends that would accommodate a group of 6-8 people and isn’t too noisy? Post-kids, I don’t get out much anymore :-) I feel like an old lady, but the handful of places we’ve tried in the past are often pretty loud, making it hard to hear anyone but the person sitting right next to you … thanks!

JanSParticipantI haven’t been there yet, but have read reviews…The Cask, on Calif. Ave. SW just north of Admiral , across the street from the Admiral Theater. It’s reviewed as quiet…good selection of wine and beer…good for conversation, as in…not loud.

shihtzuParticipantThe Bohemian is nice and fairly quiet unless there’s a piano playing.
Now that I think of it, there aren’t very many nice quiet places to have a drink.
Table 35 might work, but they did have cheesy 80’s music going that could have been a little quieter. Good vibe other than that though and there would probably be room for a larger group.

shihtzuParticipantThe Cask looks great. I haven’t heard anything about it either. I think we’ll have to go there next time we have a sitter.

hopeyParticipantAgreed on Bohemian, but do call or check their website to see if they are having music. Looks like it’s generally Fridays & Saturdays 8pm or later.

funkietooParticipantBig Al’s Brewing in White Center. They have a funky upstairs and you can bring your own food in.
of course, they have awesome brew!

JoBParticipantNT..
if you find a spot like that.. please let me know.
since the latest trend to increase noise levels in public eating/drinking spaces … we have begun choosing our dining options based on noise levels as well as food …
there is nothing worse than eating a meal you want to rave about but being unable to do so because you can’t hear your dining companion.
or being unable to share conversation when you meet friends for a drink…
although increased noise levels may turn tables and thereby increase profits .. i wonder how many customers are lost who may have lingered?
diners who linger don’t necessarily spend less.
Hubby and I seldom order appetizers or dessert where we can’t enjoy conversation…
yes.. we still talk with one another ;-)
At a recent lunch out with friends an atmosphere conducive to conversation led to appetizers.. lunch… drinks.. and dessert.
We spent more than twice what we would have if we hadn’t felt like lingering over the meal…
I don’t drink adult beverages.. but i would go out for drinks more often if i could find a place where i could hear and enjoy the conversation…
after all.. drinking alone at home is inexpensive.. and i always get exactly what i want.
I pay the price of going out so i can sit back , relax and enjoy the company of others.

JanSParticipantI had a lunch just like that the other day. It was almost 3 hours long…lovely meal, lovely company. We even chatted a bit with the table next to us. I like lunches/dinners like that.
We will have to experiment with places in WS for the same thing, it looks like :)

maplesyrupParticipantSeems to me it would depend on when you’re going out. But what comes to mind…
– The loft in Mission, although it is kind of dark in there
– The Benbow Room has some nooks 6-8 people could comfortably take over but the bartender said it can get crowded late
– Beveridge Place gets crowded but rarely so noisy that you can’t have a conversation (in my experience)
– West 5 always seems pretty chill
– Whenever I’ve been in The Celtic Swell it’s had a cool pub vibe with people of all ages
