celeste17ParticipantHi all, are we still meeting next week?
December 28, 2008 at 8:00 pm #652353
addParticipantHi – I was going to post about this too! I’m planning to come, but will be there closer to 7:30. Perhaps everyone can bring a suggestion or two for the next book? For newcomers, we are discussing the book The Zookeeper’s Wife and we are meeting on Monday 12/29 at Barnes & Noble at WWVillage.
I haven’t read as much as I had hoped to over the holidays – I’m half-way through a cool book called Tipperary. It’s a novel set in Ireland in the 1800s during the land issues, with an interesting approach to the story.
December 29, 2008 at 12:17 am #652354
JoBParticipantI plan to be there.

addParticipantHey all – there’s a chance I may not make it tonight. If I miss out, can someone please post the book you selected??!!
December 30, 2008 at 1:23 am #652357
celeste17Participantthere is a chance I might not make it either. It depends on how my back is feeling. Please post selection. And please let the information desk know so they can have extra copies on hand. They ran out of our first selection.
December 30, 2008 at 2:17 am #652358
BayouMemberI plan on being there. At least I will be able to deliver your copy of the book back, JoB! :)
December 30, 2008 at 3:59 am #652359
JoBParticipantDecember 30, 2008 at 4:18 am #652360
BayouMemberI think I’m the only one that showed up. I decided on “Three Cups of Tea” since it was the only unread book in my bag. Hope that I didn’t miss anyone else!
December 30, 2008 at 5:00 pm #652361
JoBParticipantMaybe we need to push the reset button on the book club.. two weeks out (Monday the 12th)?
And i second Bayou’s “Three cups of tea”…
this has been on my list for a while… besides… she was the only one who showed up, so she should get to choose:)
Does that work for our intrepid group of readers?
December 30, 2008 at 7:10 pm #652362
JoBParticipantmy book is on it’s way:)
December 30, 2008 at 8:00 pm #652363
addParticipantSo sorry to have abandoned you, Bayou! I read Three Cups of Tea and found it fascinating – it’s a good choice and I’m looking forward to discussing it. Monday 1/12 at 7-pm at Barnes & Noble works for me.
December 30, 2008 at 8:07 pm #652364
AnonymousInactiveI hope some of the book club members consider buying their books from a local, independent bookstore.
Square One Books is one such bookstore, and it is a WSB sponsor. It is located in Jefferson Square.
I am merely a satisfied customer.
December 30, 2008 at 8:52 pm #652365
LisaMParticipantWill you still plan to discuss the first book?
December 30, 2008 at 9:34 pm #652366
JoBParticipantLisaM..
i think we will have to.. since we haven’t yet.. and it will be the half meeting… but we will probably also choose our next book after this one…
and… so far the discussions center on the book but but aren’t entirely limited to the book itself but include the subjects the book brings up as well… so they seem to be equally interesting for those who haven’t read the book yet…
so… don’t let not having read the book stop you from coming.
scott B…
i often buy my books at square one and also count myself among their satisfied customers. It was just easier to link to the info on amazon…
they also have a book club that meets at a local coffee shop. we haven’t been able to go for a couple of months but hubby and i are both looking forward to getting back in the habit:)
ok.. i confess.. i bought mine on Amazon this time… it was just too easy… and we have a vested interest in keeping amazon’s doors open… hubby’s job is a good thing:)
December 31, 2008 at 7:43 am #652367
addParticipantAnd I will add that I love Square One and do patronize them regularly…

JoBParticipantScottB..
does it matter? ..
they are still a great bookstore well worth mentioning…
but i do try to mention to businesses that i frequent that i either heard about them on the west seattle blog or saw their advertising here.
January 5, 2009 at 6:35 pm #652370
BayouMemberI have a soft spot for Pegasus Book Exchange in the junction, which is where I picked up this one, but I also use Amazon frequently. Considering how many locals they employ, I think of them as a significant part of Seattle culture.
I don’t know about everyone else but I have been quite captivated by this book!
January 5, 2009 at 6:37 pm #652371
JoBParticipanti confess i haven’t started. amazon’s delivery has been affected by the storms and holidays:)
January 5, 2009 at 7:23 pm #652372
BayouMemberJoB, You have plenty of time before 1/12. ;)
I’m nearly finished with it myself so if anyone else wants to borrow my copy, let me know.
January 12, 2009 at 6:48 pm #652373
BayouMemberJanuary 12, 2009 at 7:42 pm #652374
JoBParticipanttonight.. tonight…
yup.. you will se me tonight…
i have even read most of the book.. though i am hoping that we have the missed final discussion on our last book…
will someone with a brain this morning remind me of both titles:)
January 12, 2009 at 7:50 pm #652375
BayouMemberJanuary 12, 2009 at 7:50 pm #652376
addParticipantI plan to be there, too, to close out the discussion on The Zookeeper’s Wife and to begin discussion on Three Cups of Tea. I read in this morning’s paper that Greg Mortenson (author of the latter) has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize by a couple of senators.
See you tonight! (7pm at Westwood Village Barnes & Noble Cafe for anyone joining for the first time.)
