Bike Registration FYI

A former colleague that lives in PDX now, recently had her two bikes stolen. She’s training for a Tri so it was particularly upsetting. She just got one back from Portland PD so I asked what helped get it back. Knowing the serial number helped, but she had it registered on a site called Bike Index which the Portland PD searched and found it reported stolen! Looks pretty awesome and I haven’t heard of it ever even though I’ve participated in several large cycling events in the last few years. http://www.bikeindex.org

No idea if Seattle PD also uses this site, but hopefully they will consider it. Sounds super useful!

Great tip. Thanks TrickyCoolJ.

This morning they listed 1,900 bikes stolen within 100 miles of West Seattle that had been registered on the index. Many were accompanied by pictures, which made me doubly sad for their rightful owners.

I’m going to register my bikes.
