anonymeParticipantI want to take some folks out for homestyle Japanese food – not sushi. I know there are several in the Junction. Suggestions?

pigeonmomParticipantI’ve had bento at both Azuma and Kamei.
My preference would be Kamei.
The tempura had better flavor and texture there.

luckymom30ParticipantI agree Kamei is one of our favorite restaurants!

JoBParticipantHubby and i frequent Kamei more often than any other restaurant in West Seattle…
it is where i take all out of town guests..
the prices are reasonable..
the food is always good
the place is not pretentious
and they are always welcoming no matter what you order

anonymeParticipantThanks everyone! Sounds like Kamei is the place to go. I appreciate the quick responses as the event is tomorrow…

MargLMemberYes – Kamei’s teriyaki/sushi/tempura combo meals are very good! Reminds me we haven’t eaten there in awhile and it’s time to go back!

AlParticipantNo one mentioned Mashiko? It’s still my personal preference overall, and is sustainable sushi!, although Kamei is a good choice if finances are an issue.

datamuseParticipantI love Mashiko but the original post specifically said no sushi. I know they have other things but sushi is their main attraction.

SueParticipantI really like Kamei also. However, I’ve also never been to any of the others in the Junction, so I can’t compare.

JoBParticipantWe tried them all…
and for family style Kameii can’t be beat..
it’s even good for sushi and sashimi eaters
i get the sashimi bento… hubby gets my sashimii.. the pups get left over pork or salmon and rice… talk about happy campers ;)))
seriously.. it’s where we take the grandkids
and they are very welcome there

BookGalParticipantKamei – my go-to comfort food. This is where I go when I want to eat good tasty food that reminds me of family (ohana) and my late-mother’s cooking.
Mashiko – good sushi, sashimi and good staff… but expensive, crowded, too noisy, and the clientele are not my sort of down-to-earth folks.
Azuma – ate there once, and was vastly disappointed.
