Synergy3kMemberHello,
My roomie was supposed to take me to the airport for an afternoon flight tomorrow but can’t anymore. I’ve been looking at the different cab companies in the area, and honestly all the reviews scare me a little. Call me a wimp! I was thinking of taking the bus, but not sure I want to deal with that either. Any recommendations, dear neighbors? Thanks! :)

flowerpetalMemberMy recommendation would be to pay less attention to the reviews. I imagine that people are more likely to give a reveiw when something didn’t go to their liking. There are probably 10-fold more who had a pleasant or positive experience with their cab ride from West Seattle to the airport. People who have a good ride usually don’t take the time to do a positive review. We use Yellow Cab.
I also like taking Sound Transit from West Seattle to the airport. Its an easy and inexpensive bus ride. Depending on where you live in WS you can catch this bus in the junction, at the ferry terminal or on Roxbury next to Safeway. Here’s a link to their Saturday schedule:

SueParticipantMy husband used to travel for business and went to the airport every Sunday for a year. He always used Yellow Cab (206-622-6500) and didn’t have any issues with them. Once (when we lived at West Ridge Park) they had difficulty finding us because were in the back of the complex and it was a little hard to find, but they did find us.
As for the bus, I had to go to the airport last month and took the 560 (the bus that flowerpetal linked to above). I was shocked at how easy it was to do it, and how much cheaper than a cab. Only hassle was actually getting your luggage on the bus – unlike car rental shuttles, nobody is offering to take your luggage on/off for you. :) (Although I should add a big rave for the nice guy – fellow passenger – who offered to help me when we got to the Junction on my return trip.)

CMPParticipantI always try to take the #560 to Seatac instead of asking friends/family for a ride. It’s easy and I have no excuse since it stops right outside my apartment. Gets a little crowded the closer you get to White Center but still room for your bags. If you can’t expense the cab ride, the bus is the next best option for saving money. It just doesn’t run at super convenient times so be prepared to get to Seatac earlier than necessary.

mrhinehMemberShuttle Express is very reliable and cheaper than the cab.

Synergy3kMemberThanks everyone, quick responses too! :) I think I will take the bus….I have a pass through work so I may as well use it. I can take the 21 to where the 560 picks up near Target.

flowerpetalMemberThe 560 doesn’t pick up near Target, unless the route has recently changed. Take the 21 to 35th and Barton southbound. That is a stop for the 560 too, on the west side of 35th, right next to Dere Automotive.
(Well, I’m thinking that “near” is relevant. Perhaps this stop is what you had in mind as near.) Enjoy your trip.

flowerpetalMemberThat’s interesting Mrhineh. I haven’t compared prices in more than five years. It used to be the opposite and thats why I stopped using Shuttle Express. Thanks for the tip.

WednesdayMemberIt’s a bit more $$$ but you could also get a sedan/towncar from Carey Limousine for around $70 and ride in style!

addParticipantI use Yellow Cab a LOT to the airport. I have always had great & reliable service for early morning pick-ups (I call the night before and arrange a “time call”). However, when I’ve tried to reserve a car in the afternoon, I have had too many bad experiences with cabs being super late or not showing up at all that I find another way to SeaTac if I have an evening flight.

rockhillsMemberThe 560 has two stops ‘near Target’, depending on what your definition of ‘near’ is–35th and Barton, as well as a stop on Roxbury. I use the 560 for most of my airport runs, and have been thrilled–at $2.50 vs. $30+, there is really little comparison unless you have a lot of luggage.

Synergy3kMemberFlowerpetal: yep, the 35th and Barton stop is the one I was thinking of! Thanks :)
