December 10, 2010 at 6:10 pm #710710
charlabobParticipantI just hopped on this forum to tell y’all to turn on cspan. I should have known you were there. (Sharred Brown from Ohio did give him a 20 minute potty break.)
I’m afraid no one who doesn’t already know this stuff is listening — c/catlb and the katskys are spellbound!
December 10, 2010 at 6:13 pm #710711
charlabobParticipantOdd bedpersons in this filibuster: Bernie, Brown, (Mary Landrieu!!!) and, g-d help me, Jim Demented. If Jim gets to join in this reindeer game I will just scream!
December 10, 2010 at 6:25 pm #710712
LucianMemberGo Bernie!! A true man of the people and my favorite Senator hands-down. If only we had 90 more like him.
He also is still a regular Friday morning interview on the Thom Hartmann show (“Brunch w/ Bernie”), and is always a pleasure to hear.
December 10, 2010 at 6:30 pm #710713
JoBParticipantNow.. this is a fillibuster…
an impassioned senator willing to talk as long as it takes to make a point:)
registering your fillisbuster with your party without defending it is for sissies…
it takes guts..
and knowledge to stand up like Bernie has.
December 10, 2010 at 7:43 pm #710714
KenParticipantGo Bernie Go
December 10, 2010 at 8:07 pm #710715
dobroParticipantjust checked MSM outlets- nothing about this at all.
December 10, 2010 at 8:14 pm #710716
JoBParticipantdobro…
coverage of Bernie Sander’s filibuster probably isn’t consistent with this headline on MSN news..
“First Read: In striking tax deal, Obama finally acts presidential”
:(
December 10, 2010 at 9:33 pm #710717
funkietooParticipantI LOVE Senator Sanders. Also, I just called and emailed both Senator Murray and Senator Cantwell with the following message:
Dear Senator Murray (Cantwell),
I live in Seattle and am a one of your consistent supporters.
I just sent an email to Senator Sanders, expressing my appreciation for standing up to the Republicans and fighting against extending taxes cuts to the top 2% wealthy individuals. Please stand up publically and send the same message as Senator Sanders.
It is time to stop the wealth redistribution that has been going on for decades. It is immoral to continue this redistribution on the backs of the poor, working poor, working class, middle class so the top 2% can continue to get richer.
Sincerely,
December 10, 2010 at 9:35 pm #710718
KenParticipantJust heard it covered for 10 seconds on ap radio news.

RarelyEverParticipantuuhhhh, i’m tickled pink this is happening and am in the process of developing a serious crush on bernie. go, bernie, go!!!
December 10, 2010 at 9:52 pm #710720
charlabobParticipantI’ve had a serious crush on Bernie for years. Ken, has there ever been a filibuster where one senator actually *said* something substantive about the actual issues at hand?
Funniest thing was watching Mary Landrieu (1) supporting what Bernie is saying and (B) reassuring her right wing constituents that she doesn’t really believe in anything he does. I can see the teabagging ads now: Two socialists destroying the world together. And He’s (shhhhhh) Jewish! :-)
Go Bernie. We contacted our senators too, with the same message, funkie.
December 11, 2010 at 12:00 am #710721
KenParticipantI am pretty sure our Senators had already fled DC before Bernie started.
Bernie just yielded the floor.
December 11, 2010 at 2:17 am #710722
SmittyParticipantGlad to hear that filibusters are OK again!
December 11, 2010 at 2:27 am #710723
dobroParticipantIt wasn’t a real filibuster since it didn’t stop any votes from taking place. If he did it again on Monday to stop the cloture vote on the tax bill it would qualify as a filibuster. It was actually a long and very fact-filled educational speech made by someone with actual American values and love for his country.
He’s a 70 year old man who stood up for 8.5 hours to tell the truth about economic injustice and the moral cowardice of a large amount of our buisness and political “leaders”. Thanx Bernie.
December 11, 2010 at 2:28 am #710724
JoBParticipantSmitty…
filibusters come in two flavors…
registering your filibuster with your party lead and heading home for the weekend
and holding the floor like Bernie did. speaking from the heart about the subject at hand.
I have a great deal of respect for what Bernie did. It took guts.. and a whole lot of stamina.
Not so much for the filibuster lite.
You should have listened to him for a while.
The man made sense.
December 11, 2010 at 2:34 am #710725
SmittyParticipantGood to know.
Word on the street was he was quoting MS Huffington for awhile, so “speaking from the heart” loses a little meaning.
Nevertheless, glad filibusters are cool again.
December 11, 2010 at 2:36 am #710726
JanSParticipantperhaps she was quoting him…:) He has spoken on this before…

charlabobParticipanthttp://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2010/12/10/mr-sanders-goes-to-washington/?hpt=T2
Starting with headline “Senator Rails Against Deal for 8-1/2 hours” — lurching to a comparison with “Mr. Smith Goos to Washington,” this article is notable for having not a single word about any idea or thought or (shudderrrrrrr) fact uttered by Bernie. I suspect they had it muted.
Grrrrrrr…….
December 11, 2010 at 5:06 am #710728
JoBParticipantSmitty…
had you actually listened to him you wouldn’t have had to rely on the word on the street for information.
charlabob…
and liberals don’t protest…
it’s a tea party phenom :(
December 11, 2010 at 5:12 am #710729
SmittyParticipant“had you actually listened to him you wouldn’t have had to rely on the word on the street for information.”
I was working.
Filibusters rule….ummm…..now…..or something.
December 11, 2010 at 5:27 am #710730
redblackParticipanthey, smitty. you know the difference between a traditional filibuster and the procedure that has come to be known as a “modern filibuster,” right? (judging from your comments, i’m not sure that you do.)
the former is an act of bravery. the latter is an act of cowardice.
