HappyOnAlkiParticipantI’d love to cut the cord, but since even my car radio cuts in and out on the way home, not so sure it would work. I’m on the flat part of Alki. Anybody down here having success with an antenna? Thanks —

lazybeardParticipantI’m right by Whale Tail park and I get pretty good HD reception for CBS, ABC, NBC but not FOX but I do get good SD reception on FOX. I don’t watch much but I could show you what I get sometime. I use a a powered antenna (http://www.terk.com/indoor-tv-antennas/?sku=LOGTVA).
Its my understanding that the surrounding water hurts RF signal.

wakefloodParticipantIf you go to a map like this, it will give a reasonable guess as to what you’ll receive and at what quality level.
I live down by the ferry and have an HD antenna up in the attic on the northwest corner of the house. I get most of the available HD stations save channel 4 but I could probably move it around and get it – might be at the loss of one of the others though.
Anyway, here’s a link to check out – there are others:

SueParticipantI’m not on Alki, but I’d recommend that if you get an antenna, get one that has a return policy, just in case you don’t get service. From the people I know, it seems very variable what you can get (or not get). My ex-husband had to return his antenna as he could not get all the channels he wanted, and I’m not too far away and get great reception. I know Costco has no problem with returns. This is the one I got from them (at half the price that this site is selling it for): http://www.winegard.com/get-free-tv/hdtv-antenna/flatwave-amped/

BearsChickParticipantI agree with Lazybeard about antenna reception on the Whale Tale side of Alki. However, on Beach Drive, all antenna reception suffers tremendously. So…it depends where on Alki you live.

HappyOnAlkiParticipantThanks, all — sounds like I’m on the cusp, and will definitely go with a returnable one. Cheers!

trickycooljParticipantNot sure if they still have them but Costco was carrying a great amplified flat antenna that’s about the size of a sheet of paper. They have a great return policy so it’s no risk and maybe the amplification might get you over the cusp. I’ve been using one for a year now and get 40 channels up on High Point, granted it’s probably the most ideal location for one up here.

lazybeardParticipantHappyOnAlki — I just realized that I have an unused, non-powered antenna you could have for no cost. I haven’t used it since I went to a powered antenna.

SueParticipanttrickycoolj, that’s the one I bought at Costco, so as of a month ago it was still there.

HappyOnAlkiParticipantLazybeard, I’d love to give it a try. I’m swamped till Sunday morning, but anytime after that I’d be happy to buy you a cup of whatever at Tully’s and take custody of your unused antenna!
