Ok, ok, I know that tanning beds are bad for you and cause wrinkles and cancer and all that. But seriously, if you saw how pale I am you’d know that in order for me to survive this summer without a sunburn (another one, I’ve already made one bad mistake while my brain was addled during the heatwave) I need to get a bit of a base tan so I can avoid any more red. So what I am saying is no lectures please :)

Anyhoo, has anyone been on the tanning beds at the Allstar? The person on the phone didn’t know anything about the prices, so I imagine that it isn’t a big ticket item there. The prices are good, which makes me lean towards just going there a few times instead of a place that specializes, but I’m afraid it’ll suck or something.

I went there last summer and got a pretty cheap package deal for 5 tans, I think. The beds don’t suck either, I recall getting rather toasted.

Sigh – okay, I will admit I have tried them :)

I have not been tanning many places, but would rate AllStar as “okay.” They are upright beds and seem pretty strong. It was $30 for 5 tans. (I think.)

There is a tendency to smell a little odd – mainly hot lights + humans, but if people keep the door open after tanning the smell is fine.

There are spray bottles for cleaning, but grab a clean cloth from another part of the gym. They are generally clean and secure.

Also, I know your feeling on this :) I have only hit the tanning booth a few times in my life and know it is bad – but I look like Snow White and had a gold strapless bridesmaid dress to pull off in May :)

Good to know, thanks! I think I’ll try it out this week. Then maybe I can continue my tan outdoors in real light and not come home a crispy critter.

Yeah, they let me know (after putting me on hold for 5 minutes) that it was $30 for 5 tans and honestly that is a pretty nice price compared to other places. What I REALLY wish is that the Executive club downtown next door to my work had their beds set up already, I’d just go there.

I think I can put up with the odd smell for a bit, I’ll probably shower afterwards anyway.
