Just bumping this up, because the cost of prescriptions pretty much ate up the funds in Elizabeth’s account.

She needs money for gas, and other expenses, as well as shampoo and conditioner.

    For Mike, et al:

This is an ongoing problem. I don’t want to stop helping, but please let me know if there’s another source of distribution besides the fundanything site.

    Thanks!

For whoever is in touch with this woman and helped her to set up the fundraising site, as a donor I keep getting updates from her via the fundraiser asking us to please forward links to the fundraiser as she’s in desperate need again. However, I don’t think she understands that the campaign ended on 6/30, and you can no longer make donations through there. So if she wants to still get donations through the site, a new campaign needs to be created there or at another site and then publicize that new link.

    Thanks angelescrest and Sue.

I’ll pass this along to happy hour, in case she doesn’t see your messages (I know she was having trouble logging on to the Forums last week) as she’s the one in direct contact with Lizzie.

happy hour is having trouble logging on to post, but can read the comments here, so here is her reply to posts 59 & 60:

I believe Lizzy was to relaunch this morning. I would assume the site must have saved links from previous email broadcast. I am not all together quite sure. I would also think it is safe to assume anyone could back out of having their email address linked. There must be a hide option?!

Donors, as discussed, may give gift cards. Regarding my past few discussions with Lizzy , I believe she might contact her doctor , for those donors wishing to help with her medical costs.

She goes to Factoria Women’s and Family clinic. However I am not clear if she has set this up.

This is a great way to offset her.

I hope this answers some questions for our WS neighbors.

(I’m curious as to whether success was from my twitter account , Fundanything Or the WSB)

This woman needs to get in touch with the west Seattle helpline. They can help her with emergency expenses and can also help her get in touch with local publicly funded organizations to help her on a more long term basis. The “fund me” thing can only last so long.

I am beginning to regret my donation as I keep getting emails from her. There are resources out there which she does not seem to be using.

birdrescuer, you’re not alone. The only way it looks that you can stop getting the emails is to opt out of all fundanything emails, which means if I ever used it again for something else, they couldn’t contact me.

I truly sympathize with her situation, which is why I donated to begin with. But that was meant to be a one-time donation, not a weekly request for more help. It’s also the second time I’ve had issues with a funding site through a WSB post – another was a crowdfunding for a local food business that a West Seattleite was going to open. I donated $25 (which was the only donation – I thought that odd as the person had no friends/family/other contacts to donate anything other than me?). They sent a heartfelt personal message thanking me, but after a week the campaign was cancelled by the person and I never heard from them again. So they got $25 from me and nothing ever materialized from the business. Lesson learned.

I don’t think any of us wants to see someone go hungry, and hence we give. However, the pleas for more are hard to reckon with. There needs to be a more sustainable method to get this person ongoing food–as that appeared to be the need.

Sounds like the WS Helpline can provide that?

are these emails that you’re getting from the actual person? or from the crowdfunding site?

From the site but with a personal message from her about not making it through the month. Hard to ignore.

West Seattle Helpline may not be able to give her what she needs. But they may be able to make suggestions. From what she has said, she does not have her own living accommodations, is that correct? I’m not sure if they have money to help with a rental situation. I do know that they will offer such things as a one time help with your electric bill, but only if you have already gotten a cutoff notification. The rest? They would probably suggest the food bank, which probably has already been utilized. But…you can go there if you’re hungry..it IS an option…and they have things like bread..sometimes even Dave’s Killer bread…and peanut butter…and fresh fruit at times..things that you don’t need a kitchen to cook them in.

Being that her campaign is over (as of 6-30-14), I’m surprised that people are still getting notices. It’s difficult to be in her position…you don’t know how it feels until you’ve been there. And it’s very difficult to ask for help for some people…because, after all, we’re supposed to be able to take care of ourselves. Pride gets in the way. I hope Lizzie gets the help she needs. If she is ill, there IS the ACA, and she would qualify for Medicaid, I’m sure. But…do they require a permanent address? And is there any hope of that? What I’m saying is…if she is as in dire straits as it’s made out to be, don’t be too hard on her for asking again. The site is probably bugging her for updates, so they can bug you.

There’s got to be something more sustainable here.

Can we do a food drive, and drop off a week’s worth of food? As I said before, it’s hard to ignore a pleas of hunger.

and to happy hour, or whoever is helping and knows her, please get her signed up for health insurance. She is practically destitute, and I’m sure would be qualified for Medicaid…and medical bills, prescriptions would be paid or at least subsidized. The ACA is a good thing.
