this is my rant…i was just reading http://www.komonews.com/news/35852744.html and it really made me upset. I understand where this family is coming from because our family is experiancing the same thing…although not a boyfriend/lover. Yesterday we were subpoenaed to appear in court as witnessess for a criminal hearing against my fiance’s brother who we have a restraining order against and who has a rap sheet the size of webster dictionary. He is mentally crazy enough to have to take anti phsycotics but as he does not want to be put in mental court the court says that they can not place him there manditory. So the courts let him represent himself. At the hearing…. he embarressed himself by trying to act like a top notch lawyer right out of some tv show. the courts let this happen all the while laughing at him……as i sat at on the witness stand being cross examined by him…which was the most stupid thing i have ever experianced he was asking all sorts of random questions i looked over and saw the judge actually checking her email from where i sat and also reading up on gossip on the internet!! I am not kidding!!! i was soo disgusted!! But anyways the judge then let him out due to he had already served his time…this by the way was a trespassing case at our house. As they played the 911 tape you could hear my 6 year old daughter crying scared out of her mind as my brother in law tried to kick down the front door. Anyways long story short he got out the same day we had to testify against him by order of the city. So he gets out and goes down to my soon to be mother in laws on delridge to get his car that the police had confiscated at his time of arrest 75 days ago… in the mean time he steals 2 hunting knives kept in her garage..i know what your thinking her fault for keeping them there. Immediatly the police are called…they come down to the house and basically say sorry we cant do anything unless he uses them with force against anyone….can you believe this! she tells them this is STOLEN from me he is a CONVICTED FELON just released today and we know he is at the travel lodge in west seattle!! the police basically laugh at her and tell her its her own fault for leaving the knives out. So know we and the other 4 brothers who live in west seattle in there own homes with there own children and jobs have to wait until this crazy guy comes and tries to use a 8inch hunting knife on them before the police will try to confinscate the weapon!!! So my take on the seattle police…they wait for the crime to happen, they do not care about crime pervention they sit back and wait for it to happen before making a meager effort to help the citizens who work hard for there money and follow the laws!
Southwest also has a hot tub – costs something like 50 cents extra to use. Very close to pool’s edge :) It should be open again by now – its opening was lagging the early November pool reopening a bit because of some final touches.
Our Hoover WindTunnel is pretty good at picking up pet hair, but it is terribly LOUD. Also, it seems to be top-heavy & it often topples over & hits the floor with a big crash if we even think about stretching out the hose to reach something nearby. Lastly, the cord seems to continually get knotted up & twisted.
The 3M FurFighters sound promising. To date, the best solution we’ve found to remove pet hair from clothes is to use duct tape. It doesn’t seem to hurt the clothes & does a better job at removal than traditional pet hair rollers.
Thanks for all the great suggestions (& for the opportunity to vent about our Evil Vacuum)!!!
This came from a friend and particularily appropriate for this topic.
One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport.
We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his breaks, skidded and missed the other car by just inches!
The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really friendly.
So I asked, ‘Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!’
This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call “The Law of the Garbage Truck”.
He explained that “many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they’ll dump it on you. Don’t take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well and move on. Don’t take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home or on the streets”.
The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day.

r26, you know what made me think you’re what my hubby calls a “proper person”: even if you and your kids were perfect, and you didn’t cut the guy off or do anything else offensive, you still were willing to accept the possibility that you weren’t aware that you did something to him. I want to hug you just for that.
Some people really are miserable and think that any inconvenience to them is someone else’s fault.
On the other side, though, I don’t mean to deem the guy a jerk, period, because everyone can go through stressful times. There’s even a possibility that he’s aware of what he did and is feeling horrible about it right now. You never know. Either way, I have serious doubts that he meant anything against you personally, and most likely he’s not loving life at the moment. I’m sorry that an action that he’s probably not even aware of had that kind of an impact on you. :(
Ah – the full moon is almost upon us. 91% full today. Being a Cancer (and believing in such hooey) I’m always irritable and short with people during this time of the lunar cycle.
Working in customer service – I can tell you that the full moon most DEFINITELY affects people’s moods. Callers are angrier. People are more curt. Coworkers get a bit more short tempered. I saw it all today and we’ll see more of it towards the end of the week (along with snow? I’m staying home!)
Breathe in and then out and then realize it will alllll be over soon. :) Props to your kiddos for being so well behaved. And props to you because we all know where most of the credit for well behaved children is due when it comes to grocery stores :)
I think West Seattle is mostly couples/families, HOWEVER, there are actaually lots of single gals that live here – I know many in various age groups. And yes, we go out in groups, as most of us are older (40’s and up) so hanging out in bars alone is not gonna happen.
I have met singles in the past – skating on Alki, walking down the street (really), and volunteering.
Also, here is a tip for you – lots of single women at the PCC wine tastings every month…good luck!
oh, the crankiness…we’ll have a table labelled in the corner for that…I may just join you..a friend and client (one in the same) asked me this morning if I was OK, because I seemed extraordinarily cranky today – lol..
One of those land use/constuction signs went up in the Rocksport parking lot a couple weeks ago…for the whole space from the nail shop through to Super Sup…:(

Well our DVR is a rental from Comcast…another one of their scams. I’ll have to check out Direct TV, further. GHO, we have the same problem with bundling. It SUCKS. I wish there were a third company. Sooo frustrating. We have a neighbor with a HUGE radio tower. I hear it interferes with broadcast signals. I don’t see any dishes on our street. :(
Actually, he looks like a young Hugh Hefner after he got tired of trying to explain his idea to the other investors, and just wanted to show them where his imagination was going.
“I’m sure it’s difficult to approach a table of women” Finally, a female that understands the single man’s plight. Thank you, squareeyes. You’ve made me so happy, I feel myself tearing up…excuse me…
Where have you been looking and what methods are you applying?
WS does seem more family oriented. As far as I can tell, I’m the only single person on my block, the rest are couples/families. My girlfriends and I tend to go out most Friday nights to do the drinks/dinner thing around WS but I’m sure it’s difficult to approach a table of women even if we are sitting in the bar area. I’ve made it a mission to occasionally go sit a bar for a drink or a meal on my own and see if I can successfully strike up a conversation with whomoever is sitting next to me. Sometimes a bust, sometimes some great conversations.
really, yumpears? I’m not sure how that works either, but if you’re willing to share the name of your security company, it would be worth checking out.
Here’s some more ammunition. This article summarizes a study being published in the journal Pediatrics. It confirms the heavy financial and personal burden on families caring for an autistic child. That’s certainly been our experience.

JoB – I have a friend who will be bringing some clothing donations.
yes ellenator.. i do want to skate at alki…
when do they do the skating?
i didn’t get the garage cleaned out yet:(
But i have done some closet cleaning and since my closet space was cut 3/4 and my closets were stuffed.. i have a fair amount of clothing to donate.
if anyone wants to make the get together a collection point for this.. please bring gently used clothing with you to the brewery.. we can transfer it to the back of my minivan and i will take it where it needs to go.
i know.. no old lady duds.. but i suspect that black and white t-shirts and most sweaters and jeans and.. are pretty generation neutral and could as easily be worn by a teen as by me.. not to mention jammies and slippers and shoes and….
there is a whole wardrobe i have been holding onto for when i lost weight…
maybe losing the clothing will prompt a weigh shift:)
it’s more likely that walking the dogs more and eating less will work better.. but at least the clothing won’t be hanging around reminding me that i didn’t meet my goals.
and maybe i will get to the garage to dig out those unused sleeping bags and flashlights as well… i can always hope…
if not, i suspect they will be as useful after christmas.
i have been in migraine hell off and on for a few weeks now and find it hard to keep up with the day to day stuff..
but… we are definately coming to the holiday get together whether i have a migraine or not…
it might not be a good idea not to talk politics with me if my eyes look a little unfocused or i am squinting… both signs that i might be just a little cranky… i don’t have much patience when i am cranky :(
Thanks for sharing your call with Nana, Christopher!
Now, not discounting your throwing abilities, I can picture in my mind the one customer in your bacon delivery scenario….
“Aw NUTS! The bacon’s in the bushes AGAIN! Why can’t that kid ever get it on the porch?”

I wont even miss On Demand, other than having Spongebob at my fingertips whenever needed. They NEVER update the On Demand programming, and I feel like I pay a lot of extra dough for something that frankly sucks. I hope DirectTV is a good alternative – do you need a dish for that? Or is it similar to Comcast? Also, I have 2 tvs – will I need 2 boxes? Thanks all you DirectTVers out there for any info.
I have Dish and it is just fine. As long as direct and dish are competitors, the services, price and offers should be about the same.
Here in some WS neighborhoods, the frequency pollution is so bad you might need the attenuator to get the radio remote control to work properly with either company.
I fled comcast after they refused to fix the signal drop after the 06 windstorm.
Saved quite a bit too since I dropped the premium channels and just download shows I want from an undisclosed location.

Jim,
They couldnt give us answers. They continued to blame it on the wind but our neighbors who had DirectTV didnt have that problem. Because of their lack of resonse to our problem with paying a bill when we didnt have the TV we switched. Since we switched we have not lost the signal with DirectTV.
austin…
i fried three slices of bacon this morning and then scrambled my eggs in some of the grease.
your review was excellent.. that is exactly what the bacon tasted like. In addition, i would like to say that it crumbles beautifully.. and that it is so rich that three pieces was too much.. even shared with the pups.
both dogs sat attentively while i fried the bacon, served myself and enjoyed my breakfast.. they stayed in a sit stay on their own until i put their dishes down with a bit of egg and bacon mixed in their kibble..
this is not normal behavior for them.. they didn’t have to ask if what i had was good.. they just knew and weren’t going to do anything that would deprive them of their opportunity to share.
i just got thank you kisses.
I’d say the bacon got a great big thumbs up.
later today i am going to drizzle some in maple syrup or honey sugar and bake it crispy … pepper it before it cools and crumble it for salads after it has chilled.
My husband will be one happy camper.. tho i don’t think he will roll over for a nap and present his tummy to be rubbed as both dogs did:)
christopher… thanks for sharing this with us.
